Guest guest
Eating is the hard part, huh. It is for me too. Last week I did 11.5 hours of exercise but only went down 1 lb due to eating out at restaurants. Luckily this can be reversed. Eat clean and in 2 weeks you'll be back in the 170's. You can do it! Hugs!On Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 5:29 AM, Navarro <navarrosarah@...> wrote: Well, I had 3 bad eating days this week so I knew I would have to pay the price for it. I am up 3.6 pounds, back to 183 again. I hit this weight originally back in January and have just been hovering near ever since. I hit the 170's but just can't seem to stay there. I have going to have to kick myself in the butt and move forward from here. Have a great day everyone. in CA No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
can't help but jump in on this one,either...but i have been reading again, lol:) this time it is jillian michaels' " Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body! " --i'm not a big fan of jillian's training style on biggest loser but this book has changed my opinion of her. lots of great info on how hormones play a huge role in our metabolisms and i'm only on page 29. (one of the reasons i borrowed it from the library is my dad has been diagnosed with graves disease so i'm interested in reading anything about thyroid problems and my own struggles with my weight.) stacey

Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. I am not giving up, I just get frustrated that it takes so long and is so confusing. I appreciate the support I get from all of you. in CA Re: 's weigh in today It sounds like might not be eating enough, especially if this is a typical day for you. Again, if it is typical, it sounds as if you're getting very little protein too (yes I know beans are an excellent source of protein, but make sure you're eating enough of them and/or other sources to meet your nutritional needs). You need protein in order to build muscle and, I think, metabolize fat too. All the weight training in the world won't help if you're not getting enough protein. Muscle is extremely important for weight loss and maintenance because muscle, unlike fat, is an active tissue that burns calories at a much higher rate, even at rest, than fat. A very small piece of chocolate cake is not going to cause a weight gain, especially with how little you ate overall. Besides, if your body didn't like it I'm pretty sure you'd know because you'd have been sick to your stomach or had other digestive issues (much more typical), it doesn't react by gaining weight, at least not that I'm aware of. I'd suggest figuring out the calories of what you ate and I'm sure it won't come out to much. I have seen many (many, many) people have their weight loss come to a standstill and even experience gains because they are not eating enough. It is super frustrating because it does not sound logical but, if you are not getting enough calories (also known as fuel) your body simply cannot metabolize fat because it needs every calorie you do give it just to sustain your basic body functions. Burning off fat is not essential and can be couteractive to survival if the body decides it is not getting enough base level energy. The chocolate cake was very unlikely the cause of your weight gain. I'm sure there are websites that help you analyze your body's daily caloric needs based on your age, gender, height, weight and activity level, I'd suggest finding one (perhaps someone here can suggest one) and making sure your intake is appropriate for health even more importantly than weight loss. It sounds like you're eating very healthy foods, but it does sound like you might need more of it, especially making sure that as a vegan, you're meeting your iron, protein and other nutritional needs too. Health is much more important than weight loss and weight loss that hurts health is counterproductive. I'm not sure that is what you are doing, you only gave us a tiny snapshot and I'm making big assumptions based on that, plus I'm so tired I can barely see straight so please accept my apologies if I've gone too far with my assumptions. You've been doing extremely well, and I know any gain is super frustrating and upsetting. I do, I've been there myself and see it every day in my meetings. Hang in there and do the best things for your health and weight loss will follow. You CAN continue to lose weight, this might just have been a weird week. You might be retaining water for unknown reasons. You might have a great week next week and have no obvious explanation for it either. My biggest message is do not make big changes based on one week's results. Weight gain or loss is sometimes very difficult to understand (it is about calorie deficit but there's more too) and our bodies do not just do what we want because we think we've done all the right things. There is a complicated interplay of chemical (including hormonal) reactions going on too that may have unexpected and, seemingly inexplicable results too. That's why I say one week does not make a trend and does not call for drastic changes. (off to bed now, for real) No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
, Your calories might actually be too low if you are working out so much. Our bodies tend to hold on to weight when we eat less food. 1.6 pounds could be monthly fluctuations, salt, water, muscle ....don't let it drive you insane. 1200 calories is really for short term dieting. I would very your calorie intake a bit day to day to keep your body guessing and prevent it from going into fat hoard mode. I'm 162 right now, but was recently at 170 and normally average in the 150s. (Thanks medication) I have found that my body looses the most when I stay at about 1700 calories a day with 6 hours of intense training per week. a Who is happy her scale is finally going back towards normal. > > Not a good one today. I'm not sure why. I didn't even have any Easter candy or anything that I wasn't supposed to. I am up 1.6 pounds to 174. How depressing. I guess I may have to seriously cut my calories down. I don't like to do that because then I get so hungry, but this just ain't working. Right now I have been staying around 1500 calories a day, I may have to go down to 1200 and see what happens. I am not going to work today because I have to go to jury duty today. I hate jury duty, it is an hour and half drive one way into Fresno and then who knows what will happen from there, I'd rather go to work. I did 40 minutes on my exercise bike last nite. Guest guest
Hi , I wouldn't sweat it - it is probably water weight - I don't think it is possible to put on a couple of pounds overnight, even from one really bad eating day! It will disappear in a couple of days. Donna From: Navarro <navarrosarah@...>Subject: 's weigh in todaynavarrosarah@...Date: Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 8:26 AM Very bad weigh in today but well deserved I guess. I had a very bad stress eating day yesterday. I gave up writing stuff down at 3570 calories but still ate some more after that. I am up 2.6 pounds today to 167.6. I am having trouble getting in exercise lately due to the heat. My husband went to Mexico yesterday for some family matters and will probably be gone a couple of months. I hate it when he's not here. I am going to try and start over today. Have a great day everyone. in CA The New Busy is not the too busy. Combine all your e-mail accounts with Hotmail. Get busy. Guest guest
Yay, finally I had a decent weigh in. Today I am down 4.8 pounds from last week for a weight of 162. For some reason the last two weeks I had some mystery pounds hanging on from somewhere. I am so excited, only 3 pounds more to be in the 150's. I haven't gotten this low ever before. I gained weight when i was pregnant with my 27 year old son and have kept it ever since. Have a great day everyone. in CA The New Busy think 9 to 5 is a cute idea. Guest guest
Woo hoo! A big loss after having mystery pounds hanging around is not at all unusual, especially if you're being very faithful to your plan and very honest with yourself. The mystery pounds were likely water, food that hadn't gone all the way through the digestive system or simply a mystery. The important thing is that you didn't get frustrated and give up and that is AWESOME! I always tell my WW members, "One weigh in does not a trend make." The best way to view the scale is that it shows trends. Each individual weigh in is a snapshot in time but so much can influence it that one or two weird weigh ins (gains or staying the same) do not mean you're doing anything wrong. After 3 I like to take a closer look at what an individual is doing but I try to get them to stay calm over 1 or 2, especially if the above mentioned conditions are in place. Too many people give up too easily but not you! Way to go !! 's weigh in today Yay, finally I had a decent weigh in. Today I am down 4.8 pounds from last week for a weight of 162. Guest guest
Great job ! I wish I could lose almost 5 lbs in a week. I'm happy that I've been losing a little bit every week considering the 17lbs increase I had last year when I found out that I have hypothyroidism and because my exercise is limited right now. I've been eating pretty healthy lately except for the Chinese food incident yesterday....this only happens every once in a while, last time was 3 months ago, so I'm not worried. So what do you eat on a typical day? Please post one days eating here, I'm curious.
