Guest guest
Hi , some one about a year ago mentioned about Botox for parotid glandsand so I did ask my dermatologist (he does a lot of botox) and he explained that botox simply freezes or relaxes muscles (depending on how much is injected) so he couldn't see what benefit botox would have on enlarged parotid glands since they are not muscles. Please note that when I did radiations I had to do several CT scans and inside the enlarged parotid glands were large cysts.Surgery is also very effective in removing the cysts and sizing down the glands but it does leave big scars on the side of the face. How ever botox can be used to decrease saliva production in people that have problems handling saliva, that will decrease saliva production by 50 to 60% but that is not why our glands are enlarged. In any case with out saliva teeth cavities go up dramatically because of the increase in bacteria caused by a dry mouth.see herehttp://alsn.mda.org/article/managing-saliva-alsMark B From: Nevin <brnevin@...> Sent: Monday, April 2, 2012 3:58 PM Subject: Enlarged parotids and botox Hi all, During a visit to a plastic surgeon here in Toronto (to discuss options for a gaunt look, post BioAlcamid removal due to an infection), he noted my parotids. and mentioned that they would probably go down after being injected with Botox. I recall seeing this mentioned once before, over a year ago. I searched ``The Body`` website, and couldn`t find a link. Parotids and radiation, came up a lot. Just wondering if anyone has had successfull treatment of their enlarged parotids, using Botox. in Toronto
