Guest guest
If you live any where close to Cedar Hill (20 miles south of Dallas) Oak Tree Academy would probably be open to this. They teach ABEKA curriculm up through Pre K. They also have a private Kindergarten class. 972-291-7893 Lori > Dear List: > > I'm new to the area. Guest guest
Hi Tocaiya (a Spanish word for people who have the same names. . .) I've had really good luck with preschools accepting shadow for my son. Both of them said yes. And another one that I asked but ended up not sending my son to also said yes. Perhaps one of the reasons is that they were shadows from a clinic (The Shape of Behavior), and so didn't seem so much like my spy in the classroom. I do have to say that it was/is very difficult for the teachers to work with a shadow in the sense that they would treat the shadow like he was the child's teacher, and not really act like the shadow wasn't there, and not really address or teach the child directly. Working out the exact roles really took a long time for the teachers. It also took a while to even understand the concept. Also, if it's your own hired shadow, you have to made sure that the person has A LOT of experience because being a decent shadow probably ranks right up there as one of the more difficult therapy roles to do well. There are so many factors to balance that only a really experienced therapist should attempt it. Also, the parent has to remain very involved to make sure that everyone is talking to each other. If you're considering sending a shadow, try to have both the teacher and the shadow attend the 123's workshop that the TexABA-SIG is putting on October 23. Actually it's great for parents to who often end up acting as shadows for their kids at playdates etc. It will be at the UH campus. e-mail workshops@...
