How do therapists usually administer this survey? I read an

interesting post in which the therapist writes that he doesn't always

ask questions directly. I'm concerned also because there are questions

of a sexual nature and the eleven year old about whom I'm concerned

may be embarrassed about this aspect. Can these questions be avoided

since they don't seem to apply to his symptoms?

Hi, my son (18) took the Y-BOCS recently. If I can recall correctly,

it wasn't anything specific as to thoughts, rituals, etc. He had to

rate the answers like...1 to 5 with 5 being more severe, that type

thing.... There was a section on obsessions and one on compulsions.

I know one was on how much time each day he spent on his thoughts

(obsessions) and his answer was over 8 hrs. The other questions were

maybe on how much distress, control, etc., with answers listed under

the 1-5. He ended up with a score in the 30's which was in the severe

range. You can google Y-BOCS and find an example.

So - just my rambling way of saying that I don't think the children's

test will get specific as to what thoughts he's having. I would think

in therapy that he would be asked about the thoughts he's having

though, but you say the sexual type don't apply to his symptoms?
