Dear Advocates:

Below is a very informative meeting that will be taking place in January. . Mark your calendars so you can attend. Hope to see you there.

Atlanta Alliance on Developmental Disabilities and Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities: Town Hall Meeting in Roswell @ The Roswell Adult Recreation Center on Tuesday, Jan 8th from 7 - 9pm! This is one of several that have been conducted around the state of Georgia. Attendances at these meetings have been between 200-250

people!

The topic is “Conversations that Matter – Town Hall Meetings on School-to-Work Transition Planning for Young Adults with a Disability”. Dr Steve Hall, Director, Office of Developmental Disabilities; O’Hara, Director, Division for Special Education Services w/ GA Dept of Education; and Peggy Rosser, Assistant Commissioner, Dept of Labor will be presenting for this Town Hall! This is not a meeting to miss and urge you to attend!

We have invited our local legislators. With the new legislative session coming up, here is your opportunity to make an impact on our legislators that the needs of those with disabilities can not be ignored!

In addition:

Below is a link on a recent story from the Dallas Morning News RE: the state of affairs for individuals with disabilities being able to access community based services in Texas. Interesting.....Georgia does NOT want to get to this point! I appreciate the reporter having writing such an informative article but she needs to understand people first language for individuals with disabilities too.

In addition, please see the below link of a picture that was in the AJC newspaper of our dear friend, Preuss and visit from the Clemson football players! For those that do not know , she is an amazing young lady that recently celebrated her 17th birthday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta after spending over 2.5 months there due to complex medical issues. She is now home!
