Guest guest
Thanks for this, . Agree that it should be studied in men and for anal cancer in general--for some reason the butt always gets left behind.... But we have a larger problem in HIV & anal cancer in that any screening at all is not yet considered standard of care, nor routinely covered by payers. We are still fighting to get the NIH to approve and fund the large scale screening trial for anal cancer in HIV positives that would make it standard of care. There seems to be much support for the concept, but there is concern that the sheer size & cost of the trial may torpedo or delay it further. When the time comes, I will probably be coming to this group to ask people to sign a large sign-on letter to the NIH in support of this trial. In the meantime people keep getting anal cancer unnecessarily and die or suffer needless morbidity (read: a colostomy) Perhaps we could interest the maker of this test to pay for its use in this trial so we can validate its use in anal cancer. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Jeff Study: HPV Tests Better at Predicting Cervical Cancer Than Pap Tests Posted by: " Vergel " nelsonvergel@... nelsonvergel Wed Aug 24, 2011 7:22 am (PDT) http://www.webmd.com/cancer/cervical-cancer/news/20110822/study-hpv-tests-better-predicting-cervical-cancer-than-pap-tests?src=RSS_PUBLIC Too bad it is only approved for women. I bet the same conclusions can be made if a study was made following poz people for anal cancerMay be we should be advocating for this test to be approved for men...any thoughts?
