Guest guest
Acyclovir does not treat candidiasis. Fluconazole does. But fluconazole can be liver toxic if used for a long term. And usually when CD4 cells go up, this problem tends to disappear. I would cut out sugars and alcohol if indeed it is candidiasis and not hairy leukoplakia. If acyclovir is working, it may be hairy leukopakia. Smoking does not help this problem, as you noted. Continuous use of acyclovir has shown immune benefits in people taking HIV medications. The least he can do is ask the physician about this. It has been documented in several studies. Black Tongue- " Candidasis " Hi there!!!!! I've got a question, and I guess that it is one that my partner should be taking up with his current physician here in New York. For about the past six months, he has had black hairy tongue or Candidasis. Sometimes the condidtion appears to get better, sometimes worse, but never clears up. He is a tobacco user, and I am certain that doesn't help the situation. For a short while, he was on Acyclovir, which helped to clear the condition up, but the Nurse Practitioner at the VA in Amarillo, TX didn't deem it necessary for him to continue that treatment. I don't have very high opinions about the VA and their medical care; however, they do have the latest medical devices. How does he clear this up... He scrapes it every few days. I advised him to begin using Listerine on a daily basis, which should help with the bacteria. He read 'somewhere' online that this condition is sometimes an end stage to HIV. I don't buy into it because his CD-4 count may only be around 150, but his viral load is undetectable. Any further suggestions on this?? By the way, he is planning to change his regimen sometime next month. His CD=4 count should be as high as mine, which last one was around 600. http://timehasshownme.com ------------------------------------

Guest guest
I too had persistent candidiasis when I smoked. For months we tried all the usual antifungals including Diflucan (fluconozole) pills, Nystatin wash, Mycelex troches and nothing knocked it out. Finally one day I was talking with my sister and she said " Isn't what you have just a yeast infection? Why not try my [normally-vaginal] douche? " I was willing. She used " Nature's Cleanse® Feminine Wash " http://www.melaleuca.com/ProductStore/Product.aspx?sku=138 I gargled with it, being as careful as I could not to swallow any, for two days. Oh my it was foul! BUT, it knocked out my oral candidiasis by day 2. YMMV. Warmly, Wes ** Black Tongue- " Candidasis " Posted by: " bullhead3031 " bullhead3031@... bullhead3031 Tue Dec 27, 2011 9:02 am (PST) Hi there!!!!! Guest guest
Tell him not to write himself off yet. See this link from the Mayo Clinic. They say black hairy tongue is harmless and caused by bacteria, not fungus. When I had candidiasis (thrush) on my tongue years ago, it was white patchy spots and was tender. It was treated by oral troches that contained clortrimazole and went away in a few days. The troches (lozenges) were about the size and consistency of a Gelusil tablet. I hope everything works out for you and yours. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/black-hairy-tongue/DS01134--- On Tue, 12/27/11, bullhead3031 <bullhead3031@...> wrote:From: bullhead3031 <bullhead3031@...>Subject: Black Tongue-"Candidasis" Date: Tuesday, December 27, 2011, 9:50 AM Hi there!!!!!
