Guest guest
It works well for some people. You do what you have to do sometimes. Ideally, the air would be pristine but alas, it is not. You can diffuse some oils, I like doing sage water steam inhalations with a towel over my head as well. There is a blocker , cant remember what its called but starts with a c and its supposed to block allergens from triggering . I'm thinking there could be some aternative things to try, look up aromatherapies, she might have something. All natural. There are some homeopathic swab type things too OTC. e

Guest guest
eukalyptus essential oil works a treat! just put a few drops on your shirt during the day and your pillow at night! You might want to add some majoram to it...it was traditionally used to cure loss of smell in some cases....not sure how it actually workd, but it's gentle and nice smelling..... I'd also cut out all milk products for the time being as they promote mucous production, and take some garlic and horse radish supplements, which clear the sinuses and are anti inflammatory. Guest guest
I have had good results from a neti pot and Aromatic Salts that I get from Into The Scented Garden. I have heard that you shouldn't use it if you are already sick, but when my allergies start in, it has helped where no OTC med did. P.S. : I do not sell neti pots or am I afilliated with Into The Scented Garden
Guest guest
I would sell those. They can be disinfected......I've decided I want to sell those, diffusers and those really cool salt stone lamps and votive holders.........I got one that is almost 3 lbs with a candle in it and its supposed to clean the air.......it looks sooooooooo cool, like a nice chunk of rose quartz.....whether it works or not it still looks cool LOL They have saline you can irrigate your sinuses with, those bottles don't get cleaned by most people......its like nose spray......think about it.....but a neti pot can be cleaned. i just do the bowl and towel thing and a good ole vaporizer with oils. e

Maggie: A couple years ago I got a wonderful recipe from this list, awesome, but an awful lot of work if you are allready ill. Delicious too. Cup Each of Peeled and chopped: ( these must be Fresh products, not dried etc) Horseradish Red Habanero pepers (or jalapeno-Red if no Habanero's available) Garlic Ginger White onions Covered by organic apple sauce vinegor and blended in blender. I like to add a fresh squeezed lemon as well. Stores up to 4 months, makes about a quart and a pint. I cut this concoction with olive oil and spread it on toast, it is beautiful of color, texture and taste. Though I've had at least one guest who thought it looked beautiful, took a big bite and her face was priceless. I learned then to forwarn the unfamiliar. She's been carefully testing anything I hand her every since, she lacks a pallette for strong flavors, particular peppers/horseradish etc. It had been cut with olive oil, I have to restrain myself from just eating it endlessly, on toasted, quality heavy bread it's a treat. Certainly more flavorful and fun than a pill of any sort. I've used it to protect myself when others are ill in the work site & successfully for stuffed sinuses. Guest guest
If I had a shop, I would sell neti pots and salt, too. Neti takes a little getting used to--I was definitely hesitant about it the first few times, but after I realized that it was relieving my allergy symptoms and all the associated breathing problems, I got on board! None of the OTC or prescription drugs ever worked for me. I got one of the salt lamps for my birthday and liked it so much I got a second one. Whether the claims made for them are true or not, I don't know, but they are glowing and soothing to look at and that surely has a positive effect! Guest guest
> > It's that time of year and I have a sinus infection... These things hit just when you need not be sick! When you're in the middle of really needing your nose. I use a neti pot with warm saline and a few drops of goldenseal root tincture. Do it more than you think you need to. Very helpful. I used some kind of nasal spray that my mother's doctor had recommended to her (I bought my own bottle). On the second dose I found that one side of my mouth had gone numb even up to my nose which really scared me. I think it was Zicam (not nasacort, I think that's okay). When I looked on the internet I found that a number of people had lost their sense of smell after using it. So, a warning to perfumers! I snort salt water when my sinuses are bothering me. I also have good luck inhaling over a warm bowl of water with eucalyptus and basil. Good luck and feel better soon! Elise
Guest guest
Hi Maggie, Try to blend some of the EOs like tea tree, eucalyptus, spinard, Cypress, lemon and mix with almond oil. Then apply to your body as if its a body oil and turn on the hot water and have a nice essential oil shower! It did work for me...just make sure which EOs work best. Then hava a nice cup of ginger tea (my own recipe, let me know if you want it). Hope you recover soon...I had a cold for two weeks and was going crazy not being able to smell anything except just wanting to eat spicy food and sushi with wasabi (horsedish). Get thee to the acupuncturist as well as doing the neti pot thing, saline nasal rinses, e oil inhalations and chest rubs, herbal teas ... you know, all the lovely things, including rest. Have also observed that dry hot air in central heating makes mucous membranes swollen and dry, and therefore prone to these infections and chronic sinusitis. Cool moist air - such as down by the sea - can be a great antidote. Take care Margi
Guest guest
Hi all, happy new year. My DS, specific antibody deficiency, has been having awful trouble with sinusitis and associated post nasal drip for weeks. Antibiotics don't work any more. He is 4.5. We are doing sinus rinses and waiting for a CT scan. Very little comes out of his nose, most of it goes down his throat leading to the most horrific coughing. Any experiences, ideas you could share? thanks, Carol
Guest guest
Carol, My son also has a specific antibody deficiency (as well as low IgG and IgM and some T-cell weirdness). Anyway, he has major issues with chronic sinusitis and we’ve finally ended up back on IVIG. He usually has to do 21 days of antibiotics in order to clear the infection, but this last time we did 42 days to get him clear to start the IVIG. He is finally sinus infection free after all of those antibiotics and then 4 rounds of IVIG now (well, 2 ½ doses and 2 full doses). Is your son on IVIG? I can’t think of anything else you can do other than possibly allergy shots if there are underlying allergies. What about reflux? That can contribute to sinus issues as well. Guest guest
Macey uses a rhinoflow machine ordered by the ENT. She uses sterile saline and sometimes Bactroban in it. She's needed IV's when she was younger but rinses, Nasacort spray and early doc visits help. She has already had a FESS (endoscopic sinus surgery) but she was 3 and newly diagnosed. Guest guest
We uses the Groshan irrigation system. It uses the packets by Neilmed and rinses like a Water pik but it was made by a ENT. It is what has made the most difference for us. You do have to be careful not to use it on too high a setting because my son got an ear infection from the pressure when he tried it the first time. If I can get him to use it.... we find it is the BEST way to keep his infections down. I have not heard anything about kids with PID not being able to use the rinses. We were told that it was essential to keep his infections down. Guest guest
My son has MRSA colonization in his nose... I asked about nasal flushes and his ENT freaked! He said no, no, no....The sinuses are generally distant and protected from a lot of bacteria present in the anterior part of the nose. He said " you would be pushing MRSA and possibly other micro-organisms deeper into his nasal cavity. " Flooding organisms from a dirty area into a cleaner area which is not aerated as well....this could be a disaster, as it has been in my child's case.  This is what happened when my son got mastoiditis.(the middle ear should be sterile) .the bacteria had moved from the nose deeper into the cavity and Eustachian tubes, and then into the pockets near the mastoid bone. I understand what our ENT means - that such nasal washes are not for everyone.....(He works a lot with people who have chronic illness, immune disorders, and on immunosuppressant meds.) Guest guest
I do not know what to think but I have been told by 3 immunologists and 3 ENTs that it is IMPERATIVE that we do nasal rinses daily to keep the overall bacteria rates down there fore the tissue can remain more healthy and less inflammed therefore preventing infections. I would be interested to know what others have been told because this has been for about the last 6 or 7 years that they have been pushing them. I am sure that it could change as far as the recommendations since they have only been used over that period of time. My son does have PID but this is the info we have at this time to work with.
