We got funding. 40 hours a week, 50 weeks per year. No tribunal. The ONLY reason we received this is because there is no other provision in our borrough since is only 2 1/2 but they could have refused us and spent the next year in haggles trying to delay funding

>>Awesome news Darla - fingers still crossed for Vicky

Giving the support while young is crutial - sadly LEA'S not opened to spending

intensively while child is young for longterm gain.

Also you got it because they didn't provide anything themselves..They will start to provide something not very good but a lot cheaper and insist that others who come after you should use it.

Yes, it's true, they don't have any alternate provision but there are numerous borroughs with no alternate provision who have never ever funded ABA programmes. Other parents fought long and hard to set precedence in our borrough and we have had a tremendous amount of support from other parents who'd worked the local system, they literally worked hand in hand with us to successfully apply. Not to mention my husband who fell asleep many a night while studying the SEN code of practice! He had several phone calls in which the highlighted areas of code were quoted directly when they tried to pull *fast ones* on us.

They are opening provison for preschoolers in Sept 2008. We had an opportunity to partake in the planning and budgeting process of this preschool (as did all other parents of ASD kids under 5). Although we would not want to attend school there, we decided not to be adversarial against the preschool as there are numerous preschoolers whose parents cannot even begin to afford the cost of ABA startup for their kids and a preschool, no matter how lame it is, is better than nothing at all, even if it is just for reprive for the primary caregiver.

I think I shortchanged those who helped us and those who set precedent when I said that the only reason we were funded was because there was no other provision, that simply isn't the truth.

It deeply deeply saddens me to see the state of the current system and to hear the stories that we all hear...

Fantastic, Darla! What a relief for you.

We should hear on Monday how much they've agreed to fund.If it's not

enough we can go back to tribunal in January any way.

I shall contact you off-list if that's OK - your supervisor has

contacted me as we are looking for a VB superviser. She was Gail's

too. (Small world.)

Your absolutely right Darla, our area has nothing to offer pre-schoolers, they try to palm people off with early bird or/and one hour a week play therapy term time only and call that provision.

People have in the past fought and won funding for ABA or sonrise but apparently Norfolk are now becoming aggressive in fighting off any attempts by parents to gain funding.

Pity they couldn't become aggressive in trying to help our kids instead.

Shame on the lot of em!

Also you got it because they didn't provide anything themselves..They

will start to provide something not very good but a lot cheaper and

insist that others who come after you should use it. Separate the

funders and the providers, I say. Make leas commission work from others

-- ie buy in what they want doing. Privatise special education.

Outsourcing is it called? What they did with school cleaning etc.
