Guest guest
Beth, Well, I am not a doctor nor medically trained in any way; and I am not saying what you should o should not do. But our experience has been this with my son- He had a lot of antibiotics when he was an infant- it helped tear up his system by killing ALL his bacteria in his colon. The result is whenever he gets oral antibiotics (until recently) he would always get bad diarrhea. In the last 4 weeks however, he has been on a strong antibiotic to fight a staph infection in his bone. He will be on an oral antibiotic for another 4 weeks or so. Knowing his history, we started him with a Probiotic from Kirkman's lab (the multi biotic version- several kinds of bacteria). He gets a probiotic supplement in between each antibiotic- another words we stagger the probiotic to time it between the antibiotic doses. We started this the first day of antibiotics. So far, even with his chronic history of bad reactions to antibiotics, (knock on wood) he has not yet had any diarrhea after the first month. Again, I am not a doctor, this is just my family's experience (my son with PDD to be exact). Please consult your physician before making any decisions regarding your health care. Good luck, J. P. He hasn't run fever but has been waking at night, shaking his head side to side some, and overall crabby mood. My ASD 4 yr. old is in the middle of a yeast fight. We're getting there but after 2 mo. of treatment, his arabinose dropped from 552 to 287...we still aren't done. Even after discussing options with my pediatrician, he felt my 9 mo. old really DOES NEED a round of anti-bodics. I want to be proactive with him so I'd like to supplement with pro-bodics. Since my ped isn't " in " to our supplement routine, I didn't even ask him about an acceptable intake. I just put a call into my DAN doctor for a recommendation, even though my younger son isn't a patient. Anyone used pro-bodics to be pro-active for an infant? Guest guest
Thanks for your input. My ASD son had chonic sinus infections the winters when he was 1, 2, and 3...taking between 40-60 days of antibodics each winter. He had a HEALTHY 4 year old winter these past few months and I attribute all the supplements to boosting his immune system. It was so refreshing for him not to be sick! This is the first infection for my 9 mo. old. The nurse called me back from my DAN doctor's office and said 1/4 capsule 2x per day would be safe for his weight. We are slathering his bottom with cream for a " just in case " diaper rash as a reaction to the Omincef but I'm hoping that the pro-biodics help as well. Thanks, Beth >>> jreirdon@... 4/8/2004 11:26:52 AM >>> Beth, Well, I am not a doctor nor medically trained in any way; and I am not saying what you should o should not do. Guest guest
I give my son one capsule of Culturelle probiotic in his milk each night. He was also on antibiotics after birth for months which did wonders to his insides...just thinking about it makes me ill. I do this all the time, not only during antibiotic use (which he hasnt needed in over a year!)Kris > My 9 mo. old son, 26 lbs. 6 oz., has a double ear infection, ingrown toe > nail and has battled pink eye for 2 weeks with eye drops.
