Hi all,

I haven't posted on here too often because mostly I come and read the boards

when I'm doing poorly. However, tonight I was writing in my personal journal

about an excellent episode of mindfulness while snacking that I just had that

totally prevented a binge! So I thought I'd share this.

I sat down for my standard nightly snack of light popcorn and an apple (gives

that crunch and some substance without heaviness that lasts through the night

like some other snacks would) and as I was finishing it I noticed my mind

mentally scanning my cupboards. Thankfully, I didn't have much in them,

otherwise I may have had a much harder time but luckily I didn't have much which

allowed me to just sit there and observe what my mind did. First, it thought

about what I had and the only things that sounded good to it were the higher

sugar higher fat foods. I forget what episode talks about that " bright light " or

bright feeling we associate with foods sometimes, especially binge foods. I

think talks about them being almost God-like in our minds. Well thats

totally what was happening. I thought about the only sweet thing I have -

raspberry jam - and my mind lit up! In the past I would eat a spoonful or 2 of

it for that sugar taste and sometimes it would set me off to full-on binge. But

I just noticed that sensation and realized that my mind was trying to give me

something positive.

Looking back, all my night time snacking comes from a place like this, of

wanting to give myself something good! I really narrowing in on the positive

intent behind these times which is exciting because now I can give myself

something else positive - like sharing with all of you!

Thanks for listening and thanks for your support - even when I don't post.

Perhaps this post is the beginning of new amounts of sharing. :)
