A school nurse, hopefully, is licensed as a RN or LVN. If s/he can make

an assessment that the medication will not be in the best interests of

the child at that time, s/he has the responsibility, not just the whim

to hold the medication. However, s/he must contact the parent, the

doctor and discuss this issue with them, document his/her assessment and

all conversations. It is also her/his responsibility to be an informed

nurse and learn about the child's disability, challenges, or

conditions. It is the Nurse Practice Act and you can read it on-line by

searching for Texas Board of Registered Nurses. BTW, it (Nurse Practice

Act) crosses borders and transfers across states.
