Hi

I've been listenting to the podcasts for just a couple of weeks now.

I have always been a terrible over-eater but have never been what you would call

fat - maybe 150lbs @ 5'7 " - as I am also an over exerciser to compensate for all

the food.

I eat when I'm happy, sad, emotional, stressed, tired, excited - there is

absolutely no relationship between hunger and food in my life. Actually I

hardly ever stop eating long enough to feel hunger & when I do I hate it.

In my early 20's I could get away with eating anything but as I got older (now

36) and the lbs started to creep on I just exercised more and more to keep up.

Yeah, I know, why not just eat less? Seems simple now but it just didn't occur

to me at the time!

I started running doing 10k races, then half marathons, then marathons and then

I progressed to triathlons (swim-bike-run). The more I ate the more I

exercised. Eventually I was training for about 15hrs per week (on top of a full

time job) which was great - I could eat anything and everything! Don't get me

wrong, I love my sport, but I always do it with a fear of what will happen to my

body if I stop.

Then motherhood happened! I put on a huge amount of weight and can't find the

time to train like I used to. I managed to lose some of it but am really

struggling with the last 8kgs (approx 16lbs) 1 year after my daughter was born.

I feel so unfit and flabby and unhappy with my body right now.

Last week my efforts to get back into shape were seriously de-railed when I

injured my knee in a coastal running accident. I'm in a splint and on crutches

for a while so not only am I not exercising but I'm being more inactive than

ever.

I managed to keep control for the first week, with the help of the podcasts, but

last night had a serious binge & I'm still going today although much less

ferociously than last night! I'm going to listen to some more episodes now and

try to get a grip.

Motherhood has changed my life completely and I need to change my attitude to

food and exercise to match. My greatest fear is passing on any food issues to

my little girl.

Now is the time for change.

Hi.  I wanted to let you know that I have a few experiences in common with

you...and IOWL podcasts and ways of thinking about food will help.  I have

been listening for a while now and the progress is happenening.

In the past I over exercised to balance out my snacking/grazing habits. It

helped me maintain my weight and let me eat what I wanted.

For about 5 years I did various types of high energy cardio for at least 2

hours a day, 7 days a week, and only took a day off if I was really really

really sick...so I might have missed one day in the 5 years...no

exaggeration.  Then my immune system decided it had enough..no one ever told me

that over exercising wears down your immune system.  They said it was the

epstein barr virus that had been lying dormant and with my over exercising and

eating sugar and junk it won the battle...I didn't think I ever had mono so I

was surprised...but it is the virus associated with mono...I was

beyond exhausted beyond fatigue and I had to cut back my exercising which

meant I had to cut back my eating habits which is when I found the podcasts. I

am 36 too.

They will help you.  Listen and re listen and you will do great.
