Guest guest
I would eat grass and dirt if they would help with my digestive issues. It is horrible having to worry where is the next restroom. When reading about C. Difficile, I am not surprised why the entire world is not 6-feet under. But you cannot live worrying all the time. This bacteria is insidious. A few suggestions:OVERDOSE ON DIFFERENT strains of probiotics. Unfortunately, probiotics in capsules are not cheap. I much prefer antibiotics that are enteric, that way they would survive pass the stomach.Trader Joe's has a good variety of Kefir and yogurt (preferably without fruit), but keep track of the strains. They will provide essential nutrients and soothe your stomach and intestines. Commercial yogurt and Kefir nutritional labels are often misleading since they list "proprietary" strains. There are hundreds upon hundreds of species of flora in the gut, most of them have not been identified. There is a website that promotes eating non-pasteurized Sauerkraut (the pasteurized kind provides no benefit since all the good bacteria is killed). It is simple to do for only the price of a head of cabbage and vinegar. Some health foods stores may carry the unpasteurized form, but it is going to be pricey. There are tons of other fermented food in case you cannot tolerate one.http://www.wildfermentation.com/<http://www.wildfermentation.com/>Read on prebiotics (the foodstuff that probiotics feed on):http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prebiotic_%28nutrition%29<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prebiotic_%28nutrition%29>Coconut oil (buy it in pill form or in liquid/solid oil at Trader Joe's). Given the amount of parasites in your gut, you will need to adjust the doses. Of course, do not overdo it since it may elevate your triglycerides. Raw garlic and onions serve double duty as antibacterial and prebiotics that help feed the good bacteria.Obviously, you cannot live on antibiotics and need a maintenance regime to keep the critters at bay. Hand sanitizers do kill the C. Difficile the bacteria BUT not the spores. Bleach kills both. I would keep a handy spray bottle with a solution of 1:10 pt bleach/water and wipe daily everything from the toilet seat/handle, sink handles, light switches, etc.The spores of C. Difficile in your intestines are the hardest battle. Your best bet is keeping a gut environment hostile for the C. Diff to regrow. If you have pets, partner or significant other, then other variables come into play. Think in terms cross or re-infection.In your own bed linens and furniture, there may be spores. Of course, you cannot be washing the sheets daily or bleaching everything. BUT if you get one of those ultraviolet wands you can disinfect the bed in a few minutes (be sure that it kills the c.diff. spores).Last and but not least, take some vitamin supplements since you are loosing valuable nutrients with your diarrhea. Split a multivitamin and take half in the AM and the other half in the PM. As you have already experienced: Antibiotics are not silver-bullets. Little life changes can improve the quality of your life. If someone had told me of all the changes I would end up making in my life, I would not have believe him. Now, back to chomping my grass again...;-)I hope wellness in your life.
