Guest guest
I learned a very hard lesson today. I took my daughter who has a power port for her IVIG in today to get her blood test to see if she has produced her own antibodies. Well they could not get it to work. So they asked when was the last time she was flushed. I explained to them that Deana has been off of IVIG since June because teh doctor wanted to see if she could produce her own antibodies. Since June she was accessed on Sep 6 for a blood draw and then again today. That is it. I have been asking her immune Dr she would be flushing this monthly like the hospital said. Her immune Dr assured me no she would be ok. Well 7 hours later after they discover it wasn't working they were discussing surgery to replace it The IV team came down to the ER and looked at her port and decided to put some clotting medicine in and give it another try in an hour. GOD BLESS she was able to get it to work again. SO the valuable lesson I learned today was NO matter how sure the doctor sounds you need to flush a port at least every month. I am so pissed right now . My baby went through so much pain and sticking today that all could have been avoided if I would have just listened to my gut. BYrd http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/deanabyrd I always know... God won't give me more than i can handle. There are times I just wished he didn't trust me quite so much. _____________________________________________________________________________ __________________
