If he went off antibiotics in mid-Feb and has had diarrhea since mid-Feb or

March (you said 1+ mons ago) the diarrhea could still be from the antibiotics

disrupting his flora. Has he had stool samples checked? Or flex sig for c.dif

toxin?

I haven't heard of diarrhea from hizentra but anything is possible.

Diarrhea and Hizentra

Has anyone else had diarrhea as an ongoing side effect of Hizentra? My son

switched from IVIG to Hizentra SubQ in January and has had diarrhea daily

for about the last month or month and a half. He has also had more headaches

than he used to, but that started back with the IVIG and they aren't nearly

as severe. He has been off antibiotics since at least mid-February.

Thanks

Have you done stool tests/cultures? Could be cdiff from the antibiotics.

We have not yet. I'm going to ask his immuno when we are in next. It isn't

constant or anything, but it is a few times per day from what he is telling

me.

Thanks,

My son does that pattern of stools with yeast. He had (we assume) dropped

Ig with dose change to Hizentra, because he immediately developed GI yeast

infection and topical rash, bacterial skin infections. The doctor

increased the Hizentra dose, but we are still battling the infections. He

is also having a lot of migraines with the Hizentra (and for several days

after), so we are adjusting his premeds each week to attempt to achieve

the best results, ie. no headache.

So I definitely think a stool culture for bacterial, viral, fungal and

C-diff would be helpful.

If they do stool tests...make sure u give fresh sample (within 2 hrs of

stooling) in an airtight container. C.dif has high false negative rate. (Our 1st

immuno didn't know this and accepted a 24+ hour old sample from a diaper in

plastic!)

This sounds very familiar. We have had more problems with infections and

headaches with Hizentra as well. The last stool culture had no C. Diff., but

also NO normal flora and heavy yeast. We've hit our breaking point because he

has so many side effects that we can't adjust his dose further and he can't get

healthy. We are trying another product hopefully starting next week. We've tried

for months and now he can't tolerate the Hizentra without terrible headaches for

3 days which is his next infusion since he infuses twice weekly without

steroids. The steroids are not helping the yeast or infections and so the cycle

goes. I know Hizentra works very well for some, we just are not among them.
