Guest guest
Hi nna, You can apply for respite services here through Texana. Please note that this is no longer offered as an in-home service; they have respite houses. You qualify based on income and need. You can also apply for in home and family support funds to help you pay for ABA (this is a supplemental amount, not much when you consider the cost, but anything helps, right?). As far as I know, there is no other state sponsored program that will help you pay for ABA. You will most likely have to have your son reevaluated, but Texana will do this for you at little or no cost. My daughter is in the Lamar school district. They have made strides in bringing in ABA trainers to work with their staff, give her resource, OT, speech, and other accomodations. The diagnosticians are better informed than the teachers, though. There are a number of full time ABA clinics/schools here, both privately-run and through U of H and by MHMR. All run approximately $3,000 to $6,000 per month with varying hours. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Yes. MHMR (Mental Health Mental Retardation) does assist families with autistic individuals. --- rosanna valenzuela <rosanna8304@...> wrote: > Does mhmra do anything for autism? > > Aliza Ratterree <alizaratterree@...> wrote:Hi > nna, > > You can apply for respite services here through > Texana. Guest guest
The local MHMR authorities have different names in each county. Texana is the MHMR authority for Fort Bend, Wharton, and a few others I've forgotten. Be aware though, as of Sept. 1 MH has supposedly split from MR. MH has gone to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and MR has gone to the Department of Aging and Disability Services. (DADS) This has caused various amounts of confusion as the various authorities sort out the details. Luckily Texana is one of the better run authorities while MHMRA of county is not. On Sept. 2 I asked an intake person at MHMRA if they were going to start answering the phone DADS, and she had NO IDEA what I was talking about. Re: hi new here questions and need help Yes.
