Guest guest
Thank you so much to everyone for all the responses, ideas and support. I feel like I'm hogging up the whole list, so I'm gonna try to respond to several posts in the same message. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, I totally agree about the gateway. Plus, something in the tea (besides the caffeine) gives me heart palpitations even worse than the Dew. I can only have one glass of iced tea; anymore raises my blood pressure and makes my heart race. I can't do coffee, never acquired the taste for it. ********************* I see Coffee/Tea as a healthier way to get caffeine, but they're always just gateway drugs back to the soda. ********************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ - You are SOOOO right about this!! I think talks about this all or nothing approach in some of her sessions. There is only black and white, good and evil, no gray shades. Maybe I should make my goal to only have 1 or 2 Dews per week instead of to never have another ever again. I just set myself up for failure when I make the goal to eliminate Dew forever. Thank you so much for making me see the light. ******************************* Is it fair to have a goal that can ever only count as a success after you're 90 years old and finally pass away, but can count as 100 failures? No, if you want a single goal thats that far reaching it goes both ways. You can't fail at your long term goal just because of something that happens one day. In my opinion it's easier to look at it as a bunch of tiny goals. Dailyweekly, etc. If you can not drink dew a day 7 times, thats 8 successes (7 days, and 1 week). If you drink Dew it's not really a failure because the goal wasn't to not drink dew on 7/15/2010, it was to go a day. You'll hit that the next day. ************************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tania, we seem to be very much alike! I am also set in my ways and I definitely prefer the Dew in fountain drinks. There is no doubt in my mind, it just tastes different from the cans, bottles and 2 liters. I also like to stick to the fountain drinks because I don't have the fountain in my house and that limits my availability to it. Makes me think twice about getting it because it requires more effort on my part. I like the idea of only drinking the Dew after I have met a specific water goal. And, you also right about the EFT and the placebo effect. If I go into it only half expecting it to work, it won't help nearly as much as it would if I had total faith in it. How didja'll get so smart, anyway? *************************** I think if you go into something like EFT half heartedly, then that is a set up for failure. Kind of like, you have to believe in the cure for it to work. I do not like the fountain drinks at the gas station. I don't like the cans. I don't even like the flippin 24oz bottles they sell here. I like my 20oz bottles. That's it. I, like you, will go out of my way to get it if I don't have it. If you are drinking it just to drink it, not because you love the taste, then what are you getting out of it? I do enjoy the Taco Bell fountain Dew over any other restaurant's fountain and I don't run out for it like a do a 20oz because it just doesn't last as long. Anyway, back to you, what if you decide which " style " Dew you REALLY love and stick to it? What if you/we (along the lines of one of the posters), decide that we do deserve a TREAT that we love. We acknowledge that there are healthier treats, but right now this is the one we want. Try to enjoy it as much as possible. I think we get so busy that we don't even taste and are not aware that we are even eating or drinking. Seriously, your body is giving you a gift in the signals it is sending you. It needs water, too. You are a flower that deserves to best fed and watered with the highest quaity foods/drinks. Allow yourself the Dew, but AFTER you have had two bottles of water first. Compromise this way, not in drinking a new carcinogen in the diet dew. We can all do it, but we have to want to do it. Sorry if this is so long and rambly! What do you think of that suggestion? ******************************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------\ ----- I agree, , because if a change is going to be permanent; it has to be something I can live with on a forever basis. I think I can incorporate a Dew on a once or twice weekly basis into a healthy lifestyle and it would be enough to satisfy me...something I can live with for the long term. Thanks! ****************************************** I agree that because of your problems with blood sugar you are probably better off finding ways to limit the Mountain Dew but I do agree that if you were to include it in your otherwise healthy diet that it may just be a splurge that you could afford most days of the week? ******************************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- , you know something funny...the only time I was sucessful with quitting Dew for a year and for my pregnancies, was when I used that method. Your post just reminded me of that. Back then I went from 20 to 12 to 10 (1/2 of a 20 ounce bottle) and to 6 (1/2 a can.) This method works well if you are totally addicted to the caffeine, I never got the headaches when I did that. I think I got started on the bigger gulps because I prefer the taste of the fountain drinks and here all the competing gas stations sell them at a reduced price for the 32 oz size. It is more expensive to buy a 12 oz can or bottle (at least in the convenience stores.) I believe, according to the label a serving size of Dew is 8 ounces. One thing I could do is to buy it with no ice and pour half into another container to save for a different day. Or, split it in half and share it with my hubby or one of the kids. That would take it down to 16 versus the whole 32. See, this list is just full of good ideas. Thanks!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------- I probably never would have thought to check youtube!! The one for Coke, sounds perfect! I will definitely look into these! Thank You, !! ************************************* EFT works best if you deal with the underlying EMOTIONS attached to the cravings. There are a myriad of youtube videos out there that you can tap along with. I like this guy who does a version he calls " Faster EFT " and has this video that deals with Coca Cola addiction (you can replace with Mountain Dew). You can also search for food cravings or compulsions and you will find lots of different people to tap along with. I also like Childerley and Carol Look. Play around with it and you will find what resonates best with you! **************************************** ------------------------------------------------------------- Again, THANKS so much for all the wonderful perspectives and ideas. What a wonderful resource of information you ladies have been. It is always amazing how 10 heads are better than 1. It is kinda like 's session on Disney and inviting the critic in when you are ready to hear what they have to say and not when they will crush your enthusiasm. I had thought of and tried so many methods on my own; but, I am finally just ready to hear a fresh perspective and you guys left me with a lot to think about and try.
