Guest guest
yes, i know the power of the scale. i have been bingeing A LOT lately.. another one yesterday... put away so much food i'm embarrassed to say the details. today, just feeling badly for myself, and sleeping it off... i'm still in bed. anyways, i just wanted to share that the scale thoughts have been loud, but i have at least resisted that!! the scale can be helpful, but only if used in a way that is empowering.. i tend to only want to get on it when i am already feeling crappy about myself = not helpful. thanks, Avie On Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 2:32 AM, Vergos <evergos@...> wrote: > > > Yuna definitely no offense! Guest guest
Please take what I say with a grain of salt, because I'm not an expert or therapist. Just a gal who has suffered from eating disorders. I think that for those of us with eating disorders / disordered eating, it's important that we give up ALL eating disordered behaviours in order to be free of the ED. You can't pick and choose which ones you want to get rid of and which ones you want to keep. Let's take the scale as an example. While it's true that using the scale can be a great weight management tool (the majority of people in the Weight Control Registry weight themselves everyday), if the reason for / desire to use the scale stems from disordered thinking, then using the scale will reinforce those thoughts, even though you may also have a legitimate reason for using it. Same goes for any other types of behaviour, like calorie counting or reading labels. Initially, while you're recovering, all those behaviours have to go, because they're predicated on an ED foundation. When you have done the inner work and created a firm, healthy, and authentic foundation, then you can incorporate the behaviours that you like and support you back in. > > > > > > > > > > > > I hope that quiet means we are soaking up the present now of our > > lives. > > > > > > > > > > > > Last week I prayed that my heart and soul would be awakened and > > renewed. > > > > > > - I felt amazing at Church. > > > > > > - I found pod casts with Oprah and Echart Tolle( Just watched ch1 > > and was moved to tears! ) I guess I should read the two books he has > > written. > > > > > > - I too have been quiet internally and externally > > > > > > > > > > > > Last week I also prayed that I would love healthy food and love to > > exercise > > > > > > > > > > > > - I have eaten really healthy this week ( I really already do) but > > I do want to replace some of my sugar with natural foods and caffeine with > > healthier things. > > > > > > - I have had no panic attacks > > > > > > - I also have worked out almost every day and I feel amazing. > > Granted my workouts are baby step kinda workouts for the more advance > > work-outers but I accept where I am at and I feel wonderful about them and I > > know I am putting forth good effort. > > > > > > > > > > > > Thanks for listen to me. > > > > > > Positive thoughts and hugs from Constance > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
