Guest guest
I just wanted to say thank you to all the parents who have contributed messages over the past 2-3 months. My son is 15 and was diagnosed with CVID in November. Our history includes him being sick pretty much every other week for the last five years. We live in a Pittsburgh suburb and were told by a highly respected primary care group that " some kids just get sick more often " . Looking back I think that because he continued to grow and gain weight probably had something to do with him not being diagnosed. But sadly over the past five years his activities became dramatically reduced (sports, school, play) due to his continually getting sick. Additionally his grades dropped while in middle school which was also stressful for him. In relation to a lot of the comments re teenagers/hormones making this illness tougher I personally feel there is something to it. To wrap up this rather long message I cannot express how grateful I am that you are all out there. If I had not had your unknowing and unselfish support I do not know how I would have gotten by. As for where he is now, we moved from the once a month hospital IV treatments to 85 mL/17 gm once a week at home and for the past two or three weeks he's done the entire treatment himself. Apparently when I put the needles in him it hurt more. He has had three weeks of not being sick and my daughter and I have even had a sinus infection and he stayed healthy. My hope is that in six months he may feel well enough to go back to school and lead a normal life again. - mom to michael 15/CVID and Lizzie
