Guest guest
Thanks I have dabbled in " The Art of Happiness " and have given it as a gift but I obviously need to sit down and commit to the full read. On this subject, I have not been particularly enjoying my job or many of my colleagues so this week I made it a point before I left for work to INTEND to have an enjoyable, successful, productive day of work. Amazing! Patrons complimented and thanked me all day long, and the next morning one of my colleagues told me what I great job I had done the day before. Guess my attitude really needed a major adjustment! I am currently reading " The Omnivore's Dilemma " by Pollan and I am so angry at what our government and big business has done to our food. I am planning to plant a very small garden next month. I don't want to be overwhelmed by it and I don't want to freeze or can or otherwise cause myself more work than I care to do, but dammit, I want some actual, real food and it seems I need to start providing it for myself and my family. It won't be perfect. Unfortunately I think we've messed things up too much at this point, but I can make a small change at my end. I had sort of forgotten about signing up for bliss trips. I enjoy them so much when reads them that I will go to the website right now and sign up. Thanks! Take care, Wynn [insideoutweightlos s] Re:Continuous Improvement weightloss @groups. com Date: Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 9:49 PM " You see, food was what I gave myself when I knew I needed to be fed, and I just didn't know yet that it was my soul that needed to be fed, and not my stomach. Easy to confuse though, because they are strangely close to each other! So I am grateful to myself for feeding my stomach in hopes that I would feel better when I didn't know how to feed my soul. " Wow Jennasue, that really resonated with me! I've been listening to the podcasts for a couple of months now and have lost 13 pounds, and have gained so much more. No, not pounds but insight. My question to you is how do we best feed our souls? My guess would be love of self and others around me, appreciation of the beauty of this world, self-acceptance. ..... Are there other ways to feed our souls? I'd like to hear some answers. Thanks ever so much to everyone who posts on this list. It's an invaluable help to all us semi-lurkers out here! Guest guest
Thanks for starting this, .... I keep reading more and more about the value of eating " forbidden foods. " ( mentions it in today's podcast, too.) The more I read, the more I'm in favor of moderation in all things as a general rule--with additional tweaking for our own personal needs.... FlyLady (Marla Ciley) has a book called Body Clutter. I think it touches on a lot of issues we discuss here. " FLY " originally came from fly fishing, but has come to stand for Finally Loving Yourself. When I first heard about this, 6-7 years ago, I thought it was pretty silly. I mean, I didn't hate myself. Oh. Not hating myself isn't the same as finally loving myself, is it.... (Anyone who's ever tried her method for dealing with clutter/ general housekeeping/time management but was overwhelmed by all the emails might want to read Sink Reflections, which summarizes the method in book form.) Guest guest
Love those bliss trips, too. Reading also is one of my main sources of encouragement and inspiration. If I wake up in the night sometimes I'll listen to my mp3 player (IOWL of course). Guest guest
Hi , Â You know when I first moved to Greece in the early 80's there was no low-fat/fat free/sugar free products to be found and no knew of sweet and low or other sugar substitutes. Foods were smothered in olive oil, people drank full fat mik and everyone bought a loaf of fresh baked bread from the neighbourhood bakery on a daily basis. However, I rarely saw overweight people (and the ones I did see were usually the more elderly) and had never seen anyone obese. I at what everyone else ate and managed to maintain my weight just fine! Then Mcs, Pizza Hut and other fast food restaurants started opening left and right. Younger people started snaking at all times of the day on junk food and hey....low-fat/fat free products were introduced along with sugar substitutes and yes, Greece now has one of the highest percentages of overweight children in greece. Overweight children....overweight adults. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? I agree with you! Lots of fruits and veggies, the fresher the better but I too think it's better to have (for example) a small piece of delicious full fat cheese then to eat a large amount of overprocessed low fat cheeses.
