Guest guest
Hi Gang, Here's an interesting article I heard on NPR: http://www.npr.org/2010/12/01/131698228/overeating-like-drug-use-rewards-and-alt\ ers-brain Just remember if you listen, that even though they say childhood diet correlates with adult weight, we can change our triggers and our set point - I did! And so have many others. Love, ps friend me on facebook. renee@... Guest guest
This article does not surprise me at all. I have struggled with anorexia for 30 years and I dont engage in unhealthy behaviors because they do nothing for me. They are addictive because I am getting a benefit from them -- a neurochemical benefit. My sister is my flip side and has struggled with obesity (even having that terrible gastric bypass surgery) and I am sure that her food issues and body issues are in part because of the same genetic pool that we both came from. Eating disorders are addictive because of that neurochemical reaction that is the same as all other addictions. Of course, it way more complicated than just that but I do think the addictive quality of ed's is one the reasons they are so hard to truly escape....Especially because unlike the alcoholic we can't choose to just not eat. (I know that because I've tried that and nearly died.)
