Guest guest
Dear Jeane, if the hematologist appt is over a week away, and she's ill, you may want to get the CBC repeated by the pediatrician or immunologist just to make sure that WBC count hasn't dipped any lower. Esp since she's ill......did they do a WBC differential on the CBC....if so, what was her segs or granulocyte # ?   You may also want to join the neutropenia group too....parents of kids with low WBCs and the disorders that cause leukocytopenia (low WBC)...very informative group and nice too.    I know this is scary, but try to hurry them up in scheduling the hematologist appt......but remember, most hematologists are also oncologists, so they too sometimes blow off a low white blood cell count, or postpone investigating why....this happened to us also.....he said we'd watch it.....I believed him that that would be OK and what a mistake that was......my son actually had a serious bone marrow syndrome and his treatment was delayed because of this attitude.  Until we went to a great hematologist at Cincinnati Children's, Dr .....he is a bone marrow failure specialist, and so caring, wonderful nurse too. Then my son got adequate diagnosis and treatment...he was placed on the severe/chronic neutropenia registry. In my opinion, it's worth the trip to Cincinnati.  please update, hugs to you and ..........Sue  From: Jeane <maryjeanedavis@...> Subject: Re: Low white cell count Date: Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 5:22 AM  Thanks so much for the detailed reply. We are in the process of making an appointment with a pediatric hemotologist. You have shared some good information, so I can go armed with some questions. Thanks again, I will let you know what happens. Right now, is actually very sick, so I am very anxious about all of this! She has PID but the infusions have really done the trick for her. She is quite hardy now and rarely get anything illness wise that anti-biotics can't handle. Anyway, the question I have is that the last set of labs she had drawn before her infusion showed that her white count was dropping below her already low normal count. It has always been around 3300 but now is about 2500. Out immunologist was alarmed by that and wants us to go see a hemotologist. Anyone had experience with this happening? Does the wbc count run low in kids with PID? Why would it all of the sudden start dropping? I am a little scared about this and would love some insight from others that have dealt with this. > > Thanks, > > Jeane > Mom to andra 13 PID, FG syndrome > > > > > > > > > > > >
