Guest guest
Linn, Four oils that are good for you because they provide different types and amounts of essential fats are: extra virgin olive, canola, flaxseed, and borage / evening primrose. You may want to try buying bottles of all four types and combining them in a separate bottle, then taking a couple tblsp of that combo daily. Or, you could try Udo's Ultimate Blend (see http://www.florahealth.com/canada/products/oils/udos_ultimate_blend.ht ml) You're probably going to be deficient in some essential fats if you over-rely on flaxseed oil. Linn, I was about to pose that same question myself! I'm from the diet school of counting fat grams/cals, and, watching the scale almost daily ----- I AM being reformed slowly but surely! However, I too am almost squeamish at the thought of ingesting 14 grams of 'fat' in one tablespoon! (a tablespoon of peanut butter would be my choice, but, I'm sure that's not the point ;-) Cyndi C1W4D7
Guest guest
I take 2 Tbs a day. The label says 1 to 2, but I know there is also a formula for Udo's(1Tsp for every 45 pounds of body weight, I think) that some use. Again, I recommend to everyone to read the latest article in MM on fats called, "Big FAT Lies" Until reading it, I did not realize that plain Flax Seed Oil is insifficient in Omega 6 linoleic Fatty Acids. Guest guest
You could take it a tsp at a time if a tablespoon sounds like too much. I don't take more than a tablespoon per day so I don't know if I am getting enough or not, but I have been pleased with my results so far. The fat is coming off. Guest guest
I just checked my bottle since I thought it said 1 teaspoon per serving. The old kind I had did say 1 teaspoon per serving, but my Flora's flaxseed oil says 1 tablespoon so it looks like I should be getting more than 1 tablespoon per day. I am just conerned about the increased calories since if I am taking 3-4 tablespoons per day, I may need to cut back my calories somewhere else. My flax seed oil says it has 2gm of Omeaga 6, 3 gm of Omega 9, and 8 gm of Omeaga 3. But I don't know how much is insufficient. I'm buying the UDO's next time. Andyman > I take 2 Tbs a day. Guest guest
Okay, straight from the article: Muscle Media (May 2001) page 69............ "I was the one who introduced flax seed oil for human consumption," says Dr. Erasmus. "That was my first oil, but I've since moved away from it because of the poor balance of omega-3s to omega-6s (about four times as much omega-3s as omega-6s). It's too rich in omega-3s, and people become omega-6 deficient if they use it exclusively for too long." The article goes on to say that an omega-6 deficiency can develop in as short a time as 10 to 16 months of exclusive use of flax oil. Guest guest
that is why I have been using hemp oil for the past few months. > Okay, straight from the article: Muscle Media (May 2001) page 69............ > > " I was the one who introduced flax seed oil for human consumption, " says Dr. Erasmus.
