IG reaction?

Hi,

Savannah (13, cvid, asthma) has been on monthly IVIG for about five years. When

we first started, she had trouble with the certain product, and we had to fiddle

with the rate, she needs it really slow. Usually she would feel achy and throw

up. When we switched to Gammagard, she has never had another reaction in five

years.

We have not changed her rate, product, or amount anytime lately. She had allegra

and tylenol as premeds today.

She felt fine during infusion, slept on the drive home, which is about 70 miles,

and upon walking back in the house told me, tearfully, that she had a terrible

headache and had all the way home. Her cheeks looked rosy, so I took her temp

and she had a temp of 100.5.

I called our infusion nurse back and she said to give her two tylenol or motrin

and benedryl if I had it, just in case, and of course, if her chest felt tight

or the headache worsened to take her to ER. She said that also, it could be that

she had something going on, like a virus or something, and the IG could be

fighting it, and cause this.

Two hours after giving two 200mg motrin and 25 mg benedryl, her headache is

slightly better, but her temp is up to 101.6, and her throat hurts (hurts like

sore and scratchy, NOT tight).

My older daughter had some virus over last weekend, that was just a fever and

achiness that lasted a few days. Her fever wasnt this high and there was no sore

throat, but I wondered if maybe she could be coming down with that, just at a

coincidental time.

thoughts?
