Neither a fecal blood test nor an anoscopy is a substitute for a colonoscopy.  A colonoscopy is recommended for all past age 50. If you're not in the mindset for the colonoscopy prep (which admittedly, while not awful, is not the most pleasant thing in the world), consider your mindset if you were to later discover colon cancer which could have been detected earlier if you'd had a colonoscopy.

A few days ago, I had a fecal blood test( negative). At 52, I haven't yet had a colonoscopy. I'm just not in the mindset to the prep  I know it's not all that bad, but this is my mindset at this time. . My question,, How much comfort should I get from the negative fecal result?  I do have yearly anoscopy. which is a different animal, lol, but that I do.

The tests are totally different and have different objectives. I delayed the full colonoscopy until this year (now 64). Firstly, it’s not that bad and prep is a lot easier than it evidently used to be. They found some benign polyps. This was much higher up the line than the other tests will catch. Definitely get one done. Then you can figure out how often to repeat. In my case in 3 years.Matt

"While a fecal occult blood test can be useful for detecting GI bleeding forany reason, it's not a replacement for a colonoscopy."I can't emphasize this enough. By the time there is blood in the feces, there can be a fairly large, ulcerating bleeding tumor. Colonoscopy catches growths at much, much earlier stages, often when they can be removed by the snips on the scope.Get that test. There's nothing to it. JB
