We were told min is 1 year for PID unless its SCID. If he's in daycare I would

expect him to constantly be sick. Thats pretty normal imo for daycare kids.

Subject: Youngest Diagnosis for CVID

Just curious if anyone knows what is the youngest that CVID can be diagnosed and

how it is tested for in babies?

My 6-year-old has CVID and I am worried my son, 4 months, has it as well based

on how often and severely he gets sick from daycare.

Thanks!

It's always been open for debate amongst immunologists. At conferences I've

spoken to families of children as young as 4 months old who have been

diagnosed based on a family history and life threatening infections. Also

XLA can be misdiagnosed at first sometimes as CVID and is sometimes

diagnosed in infants/toddlers.

Usually there are extenuating circumstances. Not to the point of being SCID

but definitely something that led them in that direction.

Have they tested him for the CF yet? are you a carrier?

Infants with CVID based on heredity usually are sick either in or out of

daycare. This was the case with Macey. She was sick from 3 weeks on. She

was diagnosed at 2 and had never been in daycare. By 2 she had already had

3 surgeries for infections and one hospital stay with MRSA.

P.S. her 18 year old sister is unaffected.
