my son is 14 and we do 60cc in 2 sites. We use 6mm as well. We put our sites in

the love handles and basically get a VERY small redness and short term small

lump. But...., we have been doing it for several years. We did get a bigger lump

originally but it has gotten better. My son REFUSES to use any other site since

he says it hurts too much. just a thought to try a new site.

I am wondering what size needles most of you use for your SubQ? My son is 14, a

at each site for about 2 weeks. I mentioned this to the home care agency and

the Dr. and it was suggested that he try a 9mm needle, that it may eliviate the

site reaction and residual lump. NOT...site reaction was twice as bad and

remained somewhat swollen into the next day. Could that be from the needle? I

noticed when I filled the syringe, it was VERY bubbley. I get occasional

bubbles when I fill the syringe, but this was bordering on foam. Could that be

something with the meds causing the reaction or the needles. I am curious what

others have experienced. We are doing this for a year now and I though the site

reactions diminished...but they have not. Thanks for any input....

He refused to move his site also. Likes the front of the belly, about 2 inches

away from his naval, on each side. We move it around that area, but he will not

move to a different site. I just don't know...the reaction is tolerable...I

just thought it would have diminished by now. AND...and wondering if the more

severe reaction this week was due to the needle change or the foamy meds??

My son Blake was using 6mm with the 6 needle set....he now uses the 9mm needles

with 5 sites.  He does his sub-q 3 days a week..he is on 10grams(30 grams

total) Gammagard S/D with a10%solution

My son is 11 and is 82 lbs (up from 72 in November when we started!) and

uses 4 sites with the 27/9mm needles. He gets a lump, but it goes away

pretty quickly. He gets 7g total which is about 37mls.

I would maybe call CSL Bering and ask them about the foaming and reaction.

Perhaps they would have a suggestion for you.

I use an adapter to draw mine up rather than a needle. I used the needle for

years and then found this. I will have to get the name. but it pierces the

bottle and is a luer lock that draws out the solution. It is GREAT not more

bubble and fast.

I would think about the fact that the skin by the belly button is taught and has

no where to swell due to the navel being static. The hip has move to move out

and absorb better. My son is 14 and has special needs so he is stubborn too but

I would encourage him to try because from what my son says it is MUCH less

painful and again we use the Gammagard SD 10% and only 2 sites for the 60cc. NO

problems with it.
