Guest guest
not surprised! I was told the same thing for my son too when he was missing a lot due to illness. He even had an IEP but they would not get the assignments together for me to pick them up. It was RIDICULOUS to say the least. From: nalla70@... Guest guest
I had in my daughters 504 plan that the teacher would provide the missed work to the counselor within 24 hours of requested or it would not be my daughter responsabiity to do the assignment and would receive full credit. Most of the work is busy work and my daughter is very bright and I didn't care if she did the missed work or not! Just a thought. I found the 504 plan worked great you just need to get the wording the way you want it to! Make it work for you!!! Lorri Kraft ( CVID, now 22 going to college to be a nurse! Guest guest
PUSH PUSH PUSH! They MUST accomadate her! If her grades are suffereing through this then she is eligible for an IEP since her illness is effected her ability to be successful. If her grades are still fine then they do not look at an IEP. You have to ask them for an IEP assessment or they will not do it. It gives you MUCH more clout since it is legally binding for them to follow it and have to review it frequently. A 504 is a suggested plan and they often just ignore it or " try " to follow it. We are now in a HS that is being EXCELLENT with us but..... I find that the IEP staff is wanting to help him and are FANTASTIC but because he has 6 teachers some of them REFUSE to work with the plan. I have only had 2 teachers show up for 4 different meetings. Ridiculous! How can they help if they do not even come to the meetings. I have had to go to the Adminstration on several occasions to require the teachers to comply with not giving him zeros to missed assignments. He cannot make up some of it and or gets so far behind that he is discouraged and does not know what to do to get caught up. After spending a couple of years homeschooling I realize how much BUSY work is being assigned so feel that the work does not ALWAYS need to be made up to be able to do well. From: osdbmom@... Lorri....it does my heart GOOD to see your post....nursing is Savannah's plan, too...Im happy to see CVID isn't changing the course of your daughters dreams. Yes, we are working on accomodations in the 504....something else I put in there...many of her teachers noted that much of her " missed assignments " aka flat out zero's in the gradebooks were due to movies and readings she misses when out sick/appts/IVIG....well, she can't do the work or tests based on movies or readings she missed, can she? so either they need to give an alternate assignment, give her the movie or reading to do herself, or give her exempt status. Its aggravating but Im pushing them and I will see this thing through. thanks. valarie mom to 3 w/cvid > > I had in my daughters 504 plan that the teacher would provide the missed > work to the counselor within 24 hours of requested or it would not be my > daughter responsabiity to do the assignment and would receive full credit. > Most of the work is busy work and my daughter is very bright and I didn't > care if she did the missed work or not!
