DLA is dependent on your child having mobility and care needs which are greater than what would be expected from a child of the same age. They ask things like how far they can walk unassisted, whether you need to care for them at night, whether they need watching all the time etc. It's worth having a look at the forms which you can complete online to get an idea of whether you think your son might meet the criteria. There are three rates of allowance for both care and mobility (low, middle and high).Does he have a statement? If so there should be a Special Needs Liaison person who can tell you what options are available to you - more educational support and/or funding. If not I would try a health visitor as they are normally aware of funding options.Autism Treatment From: mark.grabiec@...Date: Fri, 1 Oct 2010 19:57:57 +0000Subject: O/t Financial help for very high functioning kids

We're not sure if our younger boy is exactly on the spectrum but an independent Ed Psych has written us a report which shows that whilst he's great in some areas he has a learning disability in others. Does anyone think this might make us eligible to claim DLA for him or something similar? He needs support (which is why he's in a small private school) but he's going to need more help transitioning to secondary and we're skint. I wondered if anyone else had a kid "on the cusp" and what they'd been able to access. Broadly speaking he's AS but really in so many ways he's not that it's mostly a specific learning disorder relating to context and memory. Any advice would be great

thanks
