He used to have a TV show and before that, a motivational show that he would put on for high school students. A bunch of us from my school were taken to see it when he was in the area. Actually met the man, nearly caught him too when he tripped on a step next to my seat, but he caught his balance. His show, like the high school show, was motivational, how to live a good life, what not to do and all that. However, it degenerated into, I can't even think of his name, but that sleazy show where they always had fights. I felt sorry for the guy. He must have hated that. Oprah is probably seeing the same kind of decline, having to dig closer to the bottom of the barrel to get ratings. Why else would she have had that woman on, the one convicted of murdering her husband? " Anyone remember Maury Povich when he USED to be a journlist? Now he has what is rudely referred to as the " Who's Your Daddy? " show. And his wife, Connie Chung ... she went from serious journalist to pathetic interviewer as well. The other guy you mentioned is either Jerry Springer or Geraldo. Springer was the mayor of Cincinatti I believe for a while before his soap opera talk show aired. Geraldo was a well respected Latino journalist who was best known for being beaten in the face with a fold up chair by one of his guests when a brawl broke out. It made all the newspapers. LOL. Now I believe it's because they cater to the masses and clamour for the ratings. I remember a few decades ago that Donahue also did topical talk shows but I don't remember any of them degenerating into what any of these other talk shows and their hosts have become.
