Guest guest
I hope some capable person from the autism community will step up to the plate. There absolutely needs to be someone representing our kids on that counsel. That is not something I feel qualified to do and I take care of my grandson 24/7, but there must be people even in this group who could do this. Guest guest
, Jeff, and others - Who else has been " rejected " by the council? We need a list for the Summit Saturday of those who've tried and those we would recommend - as well as nonprofits that need to be involved. Liz had been told last week she'd get her answers about the Council prior to the Summit but hasn't heard anything yet - we are not going to sit around and wait - we are creating fliers to give out at the Summit that asks everyone to voice their concerns about the Council and the state " plan " they've created. Once they're final we'll post to the list too. Let's keep the dialogue going - this is the big issue for us in TX! Guest guest
Kim, Way back when the IAAC was reorganized (2-3 years ago now), I had applied to be on the council. I even had the recommendation/endorsement of Tim Cole, former IAAC chairperson, and Dr. Jane Pickett, national director of the Autism Tissue Program....but obviously I was not chosen. nna Bond Fort Worth
Guest guest
Hi Kim, I never applied but feel free to add me to the list for council consideration. I might be able to slip into the council because of my background--pro education, business degree, no rally involved, haven't burned any bras or attacked CDC personnel or vaccine manufacturers........yet. I met Gov. last month when he came to hold his press conference about the TAKS results at our school. I almost spoke to him about autism--but he just didn't present himself as being open to anything except how he could use us---hearing how we took an inner city high school from the bottom to the top of state scores. The scores weren't that impressive because I know we need a lot more work but I knew he wanted to milk us for all we were worth.... how his plans work in Texas schools--even ones where every kid is on free lunch. Unless they have something against a public school employee or ex- teacher being a part of the council, I can talk the talk. No scary lawyers here (sorry Jeff), just a sweet curriculum specialist. I am surprised they have declined the past applicants since they were all well qualified--sounds more like a postponing strategy--hoping we would go away. Hope all is well and keep up the awesome work!!! Go get 'em!! Theresa in SA > > I hope some capable person from the autism community will step up > to the plate. Guest guest
Hi : Add Guppy to that list of folks who filled out all the required forms and was not picked by the Administration to serve on the Interagency Council on Autism and Pervasive Developmental ( " ICAPD " ).
