Hello we are relocating to Texas but I am trying to decide where, we

are considering Austin or Dallas maybe Houston. My five year old

little boy is verbal and HF but does have some behaviors and I am

willing to try a VB classroom. I can not afford a private school and

really need help with parents in put and experience with public

schools, inclusion, resource rooms, teachers anything, if you can

share your experiences or just email me some schools and areas to

start with. We are going to visit soon, oh I am not excluding San

or Houston.

Our child is in a VB inclusion class in Pflugerville ISD which is outside of

Austin. It is a Preschool class and has 7 spec ed kids and 5 inclusion (they

call it Pegasus). Carrollton/ Farmers Branch in Dallas uses the same consultant

and has a similar program. We have been pleased so far and have mild to

moderate behavior issues as well.

However, I don't know what kinder is like and you will be there next year

(assuming he hasn't started kinder already). If he is verbal and HF the only

thing that I could see keeping you out of an inclusion class is behavior issues.

It depends on how severe it is. Of course I'm not on the inside, so who knows.

I would call them and make appts to visit. Ask about all their different types

of classes, inclusion, resource, ect. and 'behavior problem'. I've heard

stories about the 'behavior problem class' (my description, not the school's or

teacher's), and you don't want to be there. I don't want to scare you - very

few kids end up there, and its probably no different than any other district.

Nat and ,

I can tell you that if your child is HF and verbal, you probably do not want

to move to the Carrollton-Farmer's Branch school district. While they have a

fine program for children who are severe, non-verbal, the same is not true of

all classes.

Best of luck!

God bless!
