I had forgotten about this website that I used to read... when I started

listening to 's podcasts, I stopped reading all weight loss / exercise

websites that I used to read. Not only did I feel better, but I had more time

on my hands too!

Anyway, the site is " Body Recomposition " by Lyle Mc. I actually like his

site because there's no BS. His articles are very scientific and empirical and,

more importantly, honest. So, I went to look for some articles that I had read

before about weight loss and water retention.

Mc wrote a series of articles about excessive cardio combined with extreme

calorie deficits, like what you see on the Biggest Loser. I'm paraphrasing

here, but essentially, he says that in those who are already lean (relatively

speaking), combining excessive cardio with an extreme calorie deficit causes

negative metabolic adaptions AND causes the body to retain a lot of water, such

that it can mask any fat loss.

I think that's what happened to me earlier. I was eating a lot less every day,

partly because running blunts my appetite, and partly it was a conscious

decision to eat less and see results faster. Well, I think that, combined with

upping my workouts, AND that time of the month led my body to bloat like a

puffer fish!

I did once try to do the Biggest Loser type of thing, with LOTS of exercise and

a stupidly low food intake (like 700-800 calories). I had horrendous results,

to say the least, and felt like crap. I'm reminding myself that I need to be

patient... or as says, to enjoy where I am now.

Thanks for reading.

With love,

Yuna
