Guest guest
one of my twins was hospitalized in PICU for a little over 6 months ... chronic lung failue secondary to H1N1, psuedamonas and strepptoccal pneumonia... My question though is ativan and versed were 2 of the big drugs they had her on, are they known to cause respitory problems ?? She's been home for overa year now is trach and O2 free but she still only has just over 50% lung function... I'm just wondering if its something I need to kinda verse myself better in, in case they ever want to use them again if she is having any trouble  thanks amie mommy to joey CVID 11                cailey chronic respitory failure 12            and bekah 12 & Meri 15 so far so good   Macey can not receive either outside an OR setting due to her lung issues so also make sure there is no underlyiing respiratory problems. Both drugs make me very nervous and I'm an OR nurse. Monitor closely. Ursula
Guest guest
No. they are known to suppress breathing though. So it's a more instant effect, not long lasting. Once the drug is stopped the effects stop. Guest guest
accept that they are addictive for long term use. I would be cautious with teens and adults since there is access . For kids you may go to withdrawal if used consistently ( daily which is NOT your plan) BARBIE ________________________________ From: Ursula Holleman <uahollem@...> Sent: Wed, May 11, 2011 2:28:18 PM Subject: Re: ativan/versed : Ursula ??? Guest guest
Not a nurse here, but a Respiratory Therapist. Ativan and Versed should not cause long term respiratory issues. They are short acting.
