Wow..I can't believe that!!! is sitting up now...and his head is

getting no better on it's own...so that disproves what this person says!!

And he doesn't just have a flat spot..his whole head is flat with the right

side being flatter. If we didn't get him the helmet..i'm sure his head would

never round out.....

You know..if I didn't have a good pediatrician...i would've believed this

idiot...and other idiots like that who say it will round out on it's own.

My pediatrician sent me to a specialist...and i was also concerned by

's 4 month appt..and was going to ask her to send me to a

specialist..but if my pediatrician was like many and said to wait..it'll

round out itself..and then i read stuff like this on the internet...i

would've not tried for a helmet...and i would've thought they were right and

it would eventually round out on it's own. People really need to educate

themselves and have proof to back things up before they misinform people like

this!!!

Sorry..this really angers me...and i'm so glad i have a supportive ped!!

I too emailed the CEO of the site at Lew@... Im just so irritated by that article. Heres what I wroteI just wanted to email you to let you know how irritated I am with your article by Merideth O'Brien titled Flatheads in Need of Tummy Time. I think Ms. O'Brien should have done a bit more research before she wrote this article! Many things she wrote are completely wrong but for starters she mentioned that parents get there babies helmeted for merely cosmetic reasons and that it does not effect a child in any other way. Well the meaning of cosmetic is to change something that is already normal. A flat head and assymetrical facial features and misaligned ears that are caused from the flat head which does by the way have a name its called plagiocephaly which Ms. O'Brien fails to mention is not normal. It is a deformity!! A deformity is not cosmetic! And it could have an effect on the child later on by causing TMJ , hearing or vision problems etc. Ms. O'Brien failed to mention this as well! I agree that parents should encourage tummy time for the babies and to try repositioning but for some repositioning is impossible because the baby also has torticollis which prevents the baby from moving its neck in a certain direction. The fact that the article said heads will just round out is completly wrong. There are so many children out there whose heads never "rounded out" and they are stuck with these flat spots and misaligned ears etc. Those children couldve benefitted from a helmet! I think that you should have some one research this issue and this condition which is called Plagiocephaly and have the article rewritten. This article that you have on your site is completly wrong and is just opinions and not fact based. Many parents will read that article and then not seek treatment for there childs flat head and your site will be responsible for that. Please take this article off of your site and replace it with a more fact based article. I too was so outraged that I just HAD to send an email to the CEO and

publisher about the lack of investigative reporting the writer did for this

article- just the fact that she never mentioned the term plagio started me

off on the wrong foot, and how almost comical they make it seem, like of

course, overreactive parents want a perfect little head, get over it, etc. I

think its great that Debbie sent this our way- the more incorrect information

being spewed out there that we can change, the better!!!! Send him tons of

email about plagio! (I even told him to mention to her to do a search on

the internet, she would find tons of stuff! hehe!)- did you read her bio?

I told my husband about the article and about all the irrate moms on this

board and that I wrote a letter to the CEO. He said, " Oh no, the " nutty "

militant plagio moms are on the loose. This guy has messed with the wrong

group. " hehe. He just knows how passionate we are about the subject. Can't

wait to see if the publish a more factual article...
