(Please remember this is Jo advice not Doctor advice) I take extra iron and I no longer have periods, but I also sailed through the tummy tuck without developing an Iron problem and Many many people suddenly become anemic after a tuck due to blood loss. My theory on this (please note this is my hairbrained thinking and not Doctor thinking) I would take extra Iron and try to PREVENT any problems...with regular blood labs if I was getting tooooo much iron I could always cut back, no problem....but, on the other hand, if I was becoming Iron defecient it would be harder to 'build' back up.... I take 266 mg of Iron...and a month before/after surgeries I would double that. As a side note...the summer before surgery..I had became suddenly so anemic that I was passing out in parking lots, I didn't want to go there again so I chose the path of additional iron, eventhough I no longer have periods. Taking extra vit. C can be tricky....Vitamin C can help promote calcium oxalate kidney stones....If you are a kidney stone former you should probably avoid taking additional vit. c....If you don't have a problem (at least so far) Short-term high doses like before a surgery or during a cold probably won't hurt. (note the word " probably " ...lol you never know for sure) Best advice...ask your doctor...he see's your lab results and has a better perspective on what is best for YOU. Guest guest
> thank you for the advice Jo. what made you anemic before surgery? ******They could never determine the reason...but I took Iron and slowly got better...I was fine by the time of Surgery. > how scary to be passing out. sometimes i get dizzy like a headrush > feeling. i know people get that during weightloss mode ****just before I would pass out I would get suddenly EXTREMELY hot...then the world would spin... then Out I would go. During the weightloss period people sometimes get dizzy...I have heard the Doctor recommend drinking dill pickle juice. It is often a sign of dehydration and fluid imbalance in the inner ear....the pickle juice is very concentrated with sodium and helps. Guest guest
> I'm taking extra vit c to help absorb iron. > in Alabama ================= ...You SHOULD be taking your Iron with vitamin C or a small glass of orange juice (something acidic)...I just put the info out about Extra C (or rather I should be saying Mega doses of Vitamin C) so people are aware of the Kidney stone connection. Doll I can tell you....your iron problems are not going to go away as long as you are bleeding at the rate you are....frustrating huhh...
