Guest guest
Does you Kombucha grow differently or taste different or anything if you use strong teas or weak tea? My tea, which is Mcs Sweet Tea, -looks- stronger than what I see in pictures, and it definitely looks stronger than what is in the bottles of Kombucha they sell at that store. I wonder if its too strong? I sure have a lot of questions, don't I? I notice on top if the tea there are specks of what look like wax forming, just specks. I hope that means my year-old culture is alive after all. Since I am doing everything, it seems, different than what other people have been doing its hard to tell if I am getting Kombucha or just a decoration.... Guest guest
Hi, Would you like a good scoby, I have lots of babies, & could mail you one. Thats how I got mine from Margret in England & Anne in Texas. Then best results are Lipton tea bags & reg, white sugar & in a cpl. of days they multiply like crazy. Guest guest
Hi Jon, How long has your brew been going? " Looks like wax " could conceivably describe a forming scoby, but without seeing it, it is hard to tell. If it is, it will eventually knit together and form a scoby across the entire top of your brew. I use a lot more tea per water than my friend does, I think she uses 1 tea bag to a quart of water whereas I use 2 per quart, and we both get kombucha from it, and we both like our versions, although mine does have a stronger taste than hers. Thinking back, she did have a hard time getting a nice scoby to form when I first gave her a mother, but not sure how that is going lately as the subject hasn't come up now that she has gotten going on kombucha brewing. So it is possible more tea does make a healthier scoby, but I'd hate to form a hypothesis on that from just one person's experience - anyone have any observations on that? When you say Mcs Sweet Tea, are you talking you go to a Mcs and come home with a couple of cups of sweet tea or am I missing something? If that is what you are doing, and you would like to experiment, then try adding some water to it (you may need to add more sweetener, you'll have to experiment with that as well) thereby using a weaker tea version of it next time. But, if you like the taste of your KT when it is finished, you wouldn't need to do that.
