Guest guest
My son's last SCIG was on Saturday February 12. This morning we had a very scary situation. I gave him a mini muffin and had gone to the other room. He started crying so I went to check on him and he looked like he was choking. I got the food out of his mouth, but it was all liquid and chewed up so nothing he should have choked on. After the food was all out of his mouth he threw up some. I then noticed that his cheeks were stiff and his tongue was hard and curled in the back of his mouth. He couldn't move his face or tongue, but he wasn't choking either. It lasted about 10-15 minutes and then I watched his cheeks and tongue relax and he was back to normal. The pediatrician did x-rays to check for any aspiration which he did not have. Also his tongue is not swollen so she doesn't believe it was an allergic reaction. The more I think about it and what happened I am thinking he had a seizure which caused him to choke on the stuff he was trying to swallow. Are seizures a known side effect of Hizentra? We have had an EEG about 1 year ago because of other possible seizure-like movements my son has shown in the past.

Guest guest
April - how old is your son? Does he ever hold his breath? Is he toilet trained and if so did he soil himself during this? The amount of time is abnormally long for most seizures but anything is possible. Guest guest
Ryder is 3.5 years old. He is not potty trained yet. After the whole ordeal I did change his diaper because he was very wet, but had not pooped. I had just changed his diaper a few minutes prior to the episode because he had pooped (diarrhea). When he was younger we had a few episodes of him holding his breath when he would get extremely mad. He did actually pass out twice from those breath holding episodes. Talking to my husband and my mom, I realize the length of time could have been much shorter. I didn't really look at the exact time it started and it felt like forever. So unfortunately I probably don't have an accurate length of time. > > April - how old is your son? Does he ever hold his breath? Guest guest
Hi April...we talk also on fb but I was read what everyone said about what happen to rider. I find this group very very helpful!! I find it interesting that he held his breath. also used to hold his breath and passed out twice but turned completely blue many other times....although this probably isn't what happened I wonder if it is at all related to their immune systems?? > > > > April - how old is your son? Guest guest
Sounds like it would be useful to run this by a neurologist. Even if it's not a seizure, it doesn't sound normal for his face to have stiffened-up. It would probably make you feel better too! ________________________________ From: justine.salamone <justine200042@...> Sent: Sun, February 20, 2011 3:56:05 PM Subject: Re: Possible Seizure  Hi April...we talk also on fb but I was read what everyone said about what happen to rider.
