Guest guest
A friend of ours has a 5 yr old son who is exhibiting signs of Obsessive Compulsive behavior. His symptoms have become much more pronounced as he has transitioned to Kindergarten recently. He is verbal and does not display too much in the way of developmental delays. Since our 10 yo daughter, who has PDD/NOS, has a different set of issues, we are at a loss to recommend a Dr. Can anyone recommend a Psychologist or other specialist in the west or northwest Houston area (downtown is okay too)? Thanks for your help. Guest guest
I suspect he's responding to a too-high stress level. Has your friend considered the possibility of NVLD? Guest guest
Hi Rick, We are also in northwest Houston. My daughter has PDD/NOS, OCD, ADD, etc. Dr. Gerald Busch started treating her for her OCD about 3 1/2 years ago, when she was about age 5. She first srarted showing symptoms as a preschooler, which got worse under the stress of beginning Kindergarten. If the little boy in your post really does have OCD, they need to get him evaluated quickly. Dr. Busch once said something to us along the lines of 'Autism isn't the end of the world. Dealing with that is a process, and we'll get started on that today, but I'm not worried about that. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder isn't to be messed around with, and we need to get it under control immediately.' Dr. Busch is a psychiatrist, and did his fellowship in Asperger's Syndrome. We like him very much. In addition to managing our daughter's medication for OCD, he trained us in using Dr. Greenspan's " Floortime " which has been so very beneficial for Allie's developing social skills. His office is located in the medical center area, on Holcomb. He also likes to give out his email address, and keeps in touch pretty quickly when you have questions, concerns, etc. Dr. Gerald Busch 2424 W. Holcomb, Suite 101 Houston, TX 77030 713-665-9000 On the bad side, his office staff are a regular headache. Instead of picking up the phone when you call, they like to leave the answering machine on, and they can take their own sweet time getting around to returning your calls. This happens sporadically, but goes on for 3-4 months when it happens. Then he works on them and they clean up their act for a while. We have put up with it so far, because we like the doctor and feel extremely comfortable with him. He is never pushy, and doesn't feel threatened by informed questioning parents.
