Guest guest
HI Leah, My son was diagnosed at age 4 with " bad thought " ocd. It was just as you described. It came out of the blue one day. It was as though he totally lost his mind , saying horribly graphic things, and it just goes on and on. I immediately called my dd's psychiatrist to get him in for an appointment, but had a three day wait. It was hell on earth. I had bought some natural " calms " at the health food store, but it practically did nothing for him. PANDAS was alos suspected due to his sudden onset and previuos strep infection, but when we had his titers checked they were normal. To make a long story short, we got him in to the p-doc and we tried zoloft, which took away the horrible thoughts, but we ended up having unacceptable off the wall behavior(which I would take any day over those thoughts) we switched him to prozac with the same results. He is now on Abilify, which has diminished the thoughts as well. Personally, I would try the medication. I realize it's horrible to be giving your young child medication at this age, but you have to consider the " quality of life " If your child can get some relief, than I feel it is worth it. My son just turned 6 last week, and is doing better. He still has ocd issues but not as many bad thoughts. We also tried therapy and the doctor feels it is good for the bad thoughts to help him boss them back. I wish you luck! Let us know how you make out. We are all here for you Hugs Judy
