Guest guest
I make steel-cut oatmeal in a crock pot on the weekends, put it into individual pyrex containers and into the fridge. on weekday mornings, I just pop an individual glass container in the microwave for 1 - 2 minutes and I add ground flax seed & some fresh fruit (or frozen berries are good too). I find it has sticking power for me and can be adapted with many other things (like yogurt or fruit) to keep variety going. I'm not as much of a breakfast food kind of person - so I love a thin smear of nut butter (almond is my favorite) on a piece of toasted high fiber bread, using vanilla yogurt as a dip for apple & pear slices (things I can eat at my desk at work or keep in the fridge at work), thin sliced turkey with thin slices of tomato & cucumber on 1/2 of a high fiber english muffin, a small handful of raw almonds and string cheese, there are also a ton of egg-mug recipes on the Hungry Girl site http://www.hungry-girl.com/thursdaypreview.php?newsletterid=2063 -- just when I thought I was tired of eggs -- this gave them some new appeal -- and they all take just a few minutes from start to eat and generally just have one mug to wash afterwords! I think her site it good for a lot of ideas on quick food that can be good for you. ________________________________ From: mittyume <mittyume@...> weightloss Sent: Wed, July 7, 2010 4:11:33 PM Subject: Thank you, and snack & breakfast ideas Hi everyone, I'm the one who posted the Frustrated titled message. I would like to thank you all for helping me out, it totally lifted my spirits. I have been eating well for the past couple of days, and even went to the gym and ran today. I feel great. I have a couple questions though from people who have been doing this for a while. What ideas do people have for breakfast that is rich in protein and not too heavy? I am a student and I also work, so I have little time for food preparation. I also am sick of eggs. I come from an Iranian and Turkish background, so breakfast for me is by default cheese and bread. I do realize though bread is not that good of an idea. I need something that is quick, tasty, nutritious and takes almost no time preparing (that's why I don't want shakes because i need to have a blender out then wash it and stuff.. no time) So, I have been making myself coffee lately with skim milk instead of water. So that's filling but then I get hungry after two hours, and I know I am supposed have protein rich snacks. Problem is I am outside allll day. In class, in the lab or working with a client and stuff so I really need quick and easy snacks that is not a 99c muffin from walgreens down the block. I am learning to be relaxed when i'm hungry, but I rather not starve because it's distracting from my work. I can't go out and eat for 30 mins everytime i get hungry. So I need quick, easily available and nutritious foods. Any ideas? Thanks!
