Guest guest
Andy, according to Dr. Life beans and rice are a high carb , moderate protein that seems to be a common practice in vegetarian diets. He says that is an attempt to boost protein but that it results in fluctuating blood sugar levels.

Guest guest
A while ago somebody posted a great article, or a link to it, about vegan protein sources. I'm certainly no vegetarian, I love meat, but I don't mind at all eating tasty veggie meals. I'll try to dig up that article at home, unless somebody else furnishes the info first. (How does rice contribute to protein, though?) Regards, Andy > I do have one concern for the B F L system, it doesn't seem vegetarian > or vegan friendly. Guest guest
You are correct that the resources are skewed to the meat/fish/dairy eaters just as the population is. It is more difficult but not impossible to do. Beans and rice of course complement each other but the net calorie distribution still favors carbs over the available protein. I highly encourage continuing with BFL and using grains and legumes together. They are not the highest quality source but will supplement your protein. Soy products are excellent. Try to get a gram of protein per pound of body weight or at least per pound of lean body weight. For a 150 lb. person this would be 30 grams per meal. that may take a couple of boca burger patties. If you eat eggs, they are a high quality cheap source of protein (remember you'll need a lot of them) and if you eat dairy cottage cheese, especially the low sodium variety is an excellent source of high quality protein. For vegans it will be almost impossible without some soy protein powder supplementation. I like Optimum Pro Soy 90. Also be sure to get adequate EFA's with Flax oil supplementation or an excellent product by Flora called Udo's Choice. Try to be sure to mix whole grains with those legumes. All the best! Guest guest
Intriguing. Well, it's not a huge issue to me cuz I love meat, but I do sometimes enjoy a vegetarian meal, so it's handy to learn how to combine certain things for protein. I'll do some more research on this. Thanks, Andy > Andy, according to Dr. Life beans and rice are a high carb , moderate > protein that seems to be a common practice in vegetarian diets. Guest guest
I have an article called " A Vegetarian Vision " that's all about combining certain veggies to get protein. It's in a Word file (but could me made plain text, too); if anyone's interested, feel free to write me off-list. Regards, Andy
