I'm thinking I might like this one, actually.  I'm a fan of compound moves because I need to work on my balance. I would, however, find the overused cues annoying.  Debbie Siebers does this in her Total Solutions workout and Austin does this all the time - " you can do it!  I'm so proud of you! " etc.

Good job on getting your workout in!

If you like those moves then you would probably like this, it is a tough workout out (both are and would make for a scorching full hour + workout) and is a very good instructor. I like balance work too but right now I'm more focused on just rebuilding my strength and body definition so this wasn't where I was at mentally (and I don't usually like simultaneous compound exercises anyway). Whenever you end up doing it, I'll look forward to reading about your experiences with it!

Hi ,

Thanks for your thoughts on this one! Although it may not have helped you to like it more - remember you do not have to follow the instructor to the "T" - if you don't like the balance stuff you can leave it out and if you feel she is going too fast you can go at your own pace. I did that sometimes with Jillian.

Take care!Donna

I did the upper body/cardio workout from Whitmarsh's Results Fitness DVD this morning. Since I explained the format of the workouts yesterday I won't go into that now. I did not like this workout. The 1 minute cardio intervals are quite tough and I liked/hated them (I was swearing at the TV today) but the strength intervals were not very good. She has you doing a lot of simultaneous compound exercises that do not really get at the muscles the way I want to because I'm trying to focus on too many things at once. For example, you do a bicep curl, then twist the weight and press it up over your head (kind of like Tony Horton's swimmer's press) but you also do this while balancing on one leg and you do it with a heavy weight at a fast pace. I can get a lot out of Tony's exercise but not this one at least partly because I'm working on just staying upright. I noticed does not explain the twisting stuff, which I

found a little confusing and she did not fully extend her arm at the bottom of the curl, probably because there just isn't time to but she doesn't talk about that either.

Another thing I did not like about this one that I didn't notice as much with the lower body but it was there too, is the continual talking about how your body will look from these exercises. She talks a lot about looking good in your bikini, getting into your tight jeans, etc. Some of it is interesting (like how having well-shaped shoulders minimizes your thighs) but there is so much of it that I found it just annoying. She tried motivating you with that kind of talk ("Come on, keep going so you can have those sexy shoulders!") and I found it had the complete opposite effect because it got on my nerves.

One thing I did like was that even during the cardio, she had you focus on your arms and keeping them strong. She doesn't do any fancy arm movements, just asks you to keep focusing on them even during the cardio intervals.

I don't remember the music at all. I think there was music but it didn't do anything for me (obviously).

Last thing I found annoying... because this is all 1 minute intervals repeats the same "encouraging" phrases over and over again. "Come on, only 1 minute, you can do it!" and I started to feel like I was listening to Austin telling me to burn butter and that she was proud of me. At least makes me laugh because she's so over the top. wasn't phony but it did get really old.

Needless to say, I'm not buying this one. I like Whitmarsh, but I think I like her in limited doses too. This DVD is tough but just not fun and not something I'd want to pull out so nah, I'd rather have tough but feels great when I finish because it was tough and because it was fun.

Hi Donna,

I did think about those things but while not doing the balancing was shown as the first option, I did want to try all the more challenging things. I think if I were to do this again, I wouldn't do the balancing for the exercise I mentioned. The speed though might be more difficult to modify because each interval is only 1 minute so slowing things down means you're getting a lot fewer reps in a workout that doesn't have a lot of reps. Then again, doing any of those exercises for a full minute was a lot more challenging than it sounds so maybe it would be okay! I still didn't have enough fun with it to want to do it again but, like I said, it is very good challenge and is a very good instructor so I'm sure someone else will enjoy it.

Ugh. That talking would have turned me off too. Thanks for the heads up on that one!On Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 8:20 AM, <nancydewolf@...> wrote:
