Guest guest
Hi Everyone, This morning I did Margaret 's Strong for Life (which is on the same DVD as Limber For Life) - this one has 2 30 minute workouts, I combined them for 1 longer workout (but I skipped abs and calf work - I don't like traditional abs and I never work my calves - they get worked enough on their own - what I need to do for them is stretch them!!) Anyway, this was a good workout for today - it was non-impact and not stressful on my body which has been stressed from running, Montenegro Method and work stress! Margaret does a high rep approach - and she works one body part at a time. So, these aren't great for developing "function" but I still like to pull them out once in awhile. They are also ones you can do in your PJs. they make a good alternative to Pilates for me when I want something lower key, yet still a bit challenging. her workouts are also good for me when my back is bothering me b/c of the one body-part thing and the focus on floorwork for lower body. She does some things that bug me - like she talks about pressing your lower back into the floor when doing exercises lying down (like chest flies/presses) and she cues to stand in a pelvic tuck position when doing standing upper body. I ignore her and just maintain a neutral posture. I'm guessing the pelvic tucking stuff was "older" advice - this particular workout was from 1997. Take care!Gotta run!Donna
Guest guest
Donna, Do you think that would be a good DVD for someone who hasn't worked in years? I'm desperate to get my Mom to do something. I want her to feel and look good for the wedding (her ex/my dad #1 will be there) but more importantly I want her healthy and living to a ripe old age. Honestly, I'm getting a bit ticked with her. Guest guest
Hi a, Margaret 's workouts would be great for her - Margaret herself is in her 60's now. Her workouts are basic - sure, your mom may not be able to keep up with the reps (MR does a high rep format), but she can always do less, take breaks, etc. and build up to doing as many reps as MR. The workouts are all well chaptered, so very easy to make it fit your mom's schedule. AND, MR is having a sale now - the code is "PLUG" - I believe and it is 4 DVDs for $99 - MR's DVDs are pricey but there is a lot of content on them. Some are dated in terms of outfits, backgrounds, etc. Your mom can also check her out on PBS - if it is available where she is - MR's show is called Body Electric. I'm pretty close to caving on this sale - but I also heard that the new Classical Stretch Back Pain DVD is being released in July and that is a must have! Gee, the more I try not to spend the more I spend!
