I passed on a scoby to my mother who has been brewing for a while now too. I happen to be visiting her now, and we were surprised to see some larvae that hatched on her scoby a few days ago! I don't know if we could rescue it, but I don't think I want to try. Unfortunately she doesn't keep any 'backups', and I'm too far away to give her any of mine (across the atlantic, in fact!)
