Yup, lots of work. The whole block of neighbors are so thrilled that we

got it because EVERYBODY was sick of looking at this dump in the middle

of a beautiful neighborhood. Of course, they're not running each other

over trying to get over and help. They've come over and traded beer for

some of the lumber, though. (hehe)

Yup, I was told the same thing.....the manufacturer decides how it's

posted, which I do believe. I swear the big shots that work for these

companies lay awake at night trying to come up with new ways to fool the

consumer. Just like those new containers of ice cream, like Breyers

uses. You know, the ones that have the rounded corners and lids that

come off. A lot of people don't even realize that they're not even a

half-gallon of ice cream like the regular boxes are. They're 1.75

quarts. So if people are comparing prices of that kind of ice cream to

the regular boxes and they're the same price, they're really not. The

1.75 qts. size is more money because you're getting less ice cream.

Buyer beware!!

able to figure out which is the better price.

Now, doesn't that make you absoultely crazy????? I get so irritated

, it's like the 'New Size' coffee can - Maxwell House, at BJ's. Three

pounds! That's what the coffee can was a few years ago before they changed

the size and amount in the can so that the price wasn't raised. Instead,

you were getting less coffee for the same cost. Guess they think we don't

remember.

I have to admit that I bought it a couple of times before I realized it.

I kept thinking " gee, this ice cream doesn't seem to last me as long in

these new containers or else my daughter is eating it when I'm not

around and don't know. " The other thing that I don't like about the

containers is that the ice cream never seems to be very hard. It seems

to stay a bit softer and maybe that's OK for some people, but for me I

like my ice cream hard. PLUS, when it's softer you tend to scoop out a

bigger bowl so maybe THAT'S why it doesn't seem to last as long. Then

we'll go out and buy more!!.

Boy, did we get onto a weird subject or what? I don't even remember how

this conversation started. (hehe)

Boy, I guess vanilla is a funny thing. Besides turning things brown it

doesn't mix well either. What I ended up doing was filling the 2 girl's

orders (they also ordered lotions) and I used my usual formula for the

perfume oil roll-ons. Since my sister-in-law was the one delivering the

orders to her work place, I typed up notices to the two girls attached

to their invoice. They order stuff from me all of the time (all in this

specific fragrance). I explained the problem I had with it and told them

that if they didn't want it that I would have no problem refunding their

money PLUS I gave it to them for half-price. That way I left it up to

them to decide. Who knows, they might not mind shaking it before each

use. There are a lot of products on the market that you have to do that

with.

That's what I've heard is that it's the vanilla content. The vanilla

Hi Diane,

I had them send me the results. Our neighbor, my husband's internist, said they

were negative for yeast. It was supposed to help the quack who requested it

determine which antifungal to prescribe. I didn't see anything on there about

that. So it ended up being a waste like the appt.

Thanks,

Beth..

I used to be a registered nurse. If you paid for an analysis, the doctor has

to give you the results of the test in writing if you so desire. Anytime I

have blood work, etc. I ask for a copy of the results, as I trust no doctor

with my health..

Just my opinion.

THANK YOU. I think sometimes we parents need to know from others that we are

not overreacting. My mom has been telling me exactly what you said for months

now. It still amazes us that they will not give us a firm diagnosis. The

clinic we use seem to be ultra conservative and I'm afraid Hannah will have

damage if we do not treat her properly. Both my mom and sister have the

deformities that can come with RA and it scares me for Hannah.

I will let you know after I speak with him hopefully tomorrow.

that pain management would be very wrong at this point. I agree with you

wholeheartedly...if they insist on that avenue, I'd see another rheumy.

Your heart is telling you exactly what to do. We'll keep you and Hannah

in our prayers.

By the way, classic signs of JRA are the morning stiffness. I have RA,

and what you describe about Hannah describes me to a tee...from the

morning stiffness to the increasing pain in the evenings, when I tend to

sit more and get stiff and more painful. I haven't read anything about

evening pain and stiffness, the docs always go by the morning pain. But

having been positively diagnosed with RA, and talking to my son with AS,

and the scores of others I know, we all describe virtually the same thing

Hannah is going through.

Best wishes and keeping you in thought and prayer during this difficult

journey.

Hi everyone:

It has now been almost 2 weeks since Hannah saw the new rheumy. It has

been 3, almost 4 weeks since they increased her Mobic dose (currently

taking 3.7ml of 7.5mg). I am supposed to check back in with the new

doctor this week to let him know how Hannah's pain has been. I have not

seen any difference on the new dose of Mobic. She still has a lot of pian

in the mornings which will last anywhere from 20 minuts to more than an

hour; she gests better (not pain free) during the day; and then has

increased pain in the evening. Some times I see slight swelling, but most

times not.

Both the first rheumy and the new rheumy have suggested pain management

to me before. I am pretty confident this will come up again this week.

Hannah has only been tried on OTC Aleeve; Naproxen and now the 2 doses of

Mobic. I do not feel we have tried enough meds to warrant pain

management.

I feel pain management is almost like giving up. They will either suggest

narcotics or teach her how to live with the pain. Neither option in my

mind is acceptable for an almost 10 year old child. Am I wrong in this

thinking? Has anyone used pain management? I, myself, have gone to pain

management and this has been my experience for myself.

I want to be educated before I call the doctor. Any suggestions? Do they

normally try more meds besides 2 before recommending this? I am tired of

being told how complicated she is. They are ones that went to med school

and they should be doing more find the problem. I am really concerned

about this. If they are adamant about this, I don't think I will go back

to this doctor, but take Hannah to my mom's adult rheumy who has said he

would see her. He sees both my mom & sister who have RA.

Please let me know what you all think. I will most likely call either

Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how work goes tomorrow.

Thanks!!!

I was actually thinking about pain management for my son and whether

or not it would help. Are there certain indications that this therapy

might help?

Andy (8) has a tendency to go-go-go and then have a complete breakdown

with temper and everything. He only does this at home because he knows

he can't get away with that behavior in public. He gets so out of it

that the only way he can deal with it is to leave him alone and let

him have it out. I know he's in pain, but the way he deals with it is

not good. As parents, we don't encourage this behavior and he does get

punished. He knows what he is doing is wrong, but he just doesn't know

how else to get out his frustration and pain.

I agree that Hannah is getting swept under the rug and that other drug

treatments should be tried. It's obvious there are many other drug

choices out there. And I don't get the feeling Beth is on board with

it. That right there should be a big reason not to do it.

But in my son's case, he's already been on naprosyn and top doses of

mtx for over a year. He's now on plaquenil too. He's also on

compazine, zantac and folic acid. I feel like he's a walking medicine

cabinet, and he has side effects to every medication he's tried.

I hope this never happens, but is there a point when you say after

you've tried so many drugs that don't help, maybe it's best just to

focus on managing the pain? Again, I'd like to say, I don't feel that

is the case at all with Hannah.

If anyone can explain what the purpose of pain management is and how

it is supposed to work, that would help so much.

Beth, I hope Hannah is feeling better soon and that you get this

craziness and pain under control with good meds.

Thanks,

I did not hear back yet, but I don't think he was there yesterday. She is about

the same, but had something weird (and scary) happen last night. She was

on-line with 's daughter for about 20 minutes. She had been complaining

all day that her knees hurt (not unusual for her). When she got up from the

chair, she took maybe 1/2 step and fell to her knees. Scared the beejebers out

of me! She just said they hurt too much to support her. She did get up and it

was time for bed, so I gave her some Tylenol and put her to bed. This morning

she was as she usually is, no additional pain, but still stiff and sore.

We see the immunologist today and I will be asking lots of questions to her

escpecially her opinion on meds.

Thanks for asking and good luck to your hubby on the GI issue. By the way,

Hannah may be going through the same thing soon. I was told yesterday by a

patient that United Healthcare is discontinuing coverage for Nexium which is the

only that worked for Hannah. GRRRR

The knee thing was really strange. She said it was similar to what happened in

If you have not seen my update (the things that make go hmmm), please read it.

I think you will find it interesting! Personally I'm more frustrated. I'm

right?

Yes Beth I did read it and it made me go Hmmm! :-)

I will be very interested to see what the rheumies say when they get

back to you after their consultation with each other. I am glad

that you are taking her to your mom's rheumy.

My two favorite rheumies that Aundrea has had were both non-

pediatric rheumies but they did have a pediatric following.

Typically, I understand why others would advise seeing a ped rheumy

but this has just been our experience. So, my hope is that it will

go very well for Hannah.

Seems like you have a good immunologist. did you get his progress

notes. I would get them and share them with the new rheumy.

please read it. I think you will find it interesting! Personally

I'm more frustrated. I'm calling my mom's rheumy tomorrow to set up

a consult. Mom says they are about a month out for new patiens.

Heck its been almost 8 months, what's one more? right?

Beth,

Shriners have 22 hospitals. Of course one is in Mexico City and another in

Hawaii so you would probably only realisitcally have 20 to choose from. Some

specialize in burn but most specialize in orthopedic. I am not sure which one

would be your best choice. www.shrinershq.org is the site to go to and find

phone numbers for everyone of their hospitals. The best thing is they get you

in quickly and they will keep working with you until they find the cure. I have

been told there are some of their hospitals with top notch ped rheumys, but I do

not know which ones. They are good to help you with transportation costs as

well as expenses while you are staying there. I do have a friend that could get

me all this right information if he was not in Europe right now. He will be

back in the states by Sunday I think and so I will talk to him if you would

like. I am sure that he would be able to find you a local shriner where you live

to help you work through it if you decide to go this route.

Re: Re: Hannah' appt-

Veri: where is the Shriner's? Do they have a website. I'll look at every option

right now.

Beth,

I keep praying that someone will give you some answer that will help. I know

you are so frustrated. The Mayo clinic is a good way to go but you also

might consider the Shriners Hospital. I know that it often takes a while to get

into Mayo but if you can find a connection with the Shriners they often will

get you in very very quickly and then they will work wiht you until they get

the results. That may mean them flying you to the hospital and then putting you

up while they work with Hannah. When we were looking into going to Shriners

they assured us that they would take what insurance paid and we would not

have to pay anymore. I just thought you might look that way.

Sandi,

Thanks for the advise...we are trying it today after school!

basically a squirt bottle--with a straw to reach the bottom. It

comes with saline tablets that you drop in. She likes this system

because you use exactly the right amount each time without too much

pressure--we have the Pediatric Bottle. Also, she didn't want us

purchasing an expensive system because they can " grow stuff in them

too easily. " These were the Doctor's words, not mine. I wash out

the bottle after each use and it has done wonders for . It's

also EASY to use--he can do it himself. Although, I make sure he

doesn't do it in the shower--that way I know he's actually done it--

he is thirteen after all :)
