Guest guest
Asking on here is one of the best ways to find a good doctor. Calling a local HIV non profit also. It is absolutely horrible to locate a new doctor. My partner goes to the VA, so his care is a little more straightforward. Me, I don't, so I have to depend on the usual and if the state, such as New Mexico and New York, pre-existing care insurance. New Mexico had a decent program, where we got Blue Cross Blue Shield of NM. I am thinking that NY has something similar, probably even better. Back to finding a new doctor. It can be so difficult to find one that is a good fit. For example, the physician that I had in Roswell, NM, I didn't care for at all; however, the female doctor that I had in San , NM was great!!!! Her name was Dr. Celia Tellez, in the event any of you are in that area. So we are back in upstate New York, and I am very glad of it. My partner will be seeing the VA in Syracuse, while I will be going to Dr. Duah in Watertown, NY. If I don't care for her, I can always go back to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. There just seems to be so much going on when looking for a new physician. Do they listen??? Are they out to write the most expensive prescriptions for my blood pressure medications, so they get the perks from the pharmaceutical company...??? My doctor in Roswell, NM did this. I really didn't care for him. When relocating, how do you guys go about finding a new physician??? Or if on White/ADAP are you more directed to who your ASO utilizes? http://timehasshownme.com ------------------------------------

Guest guest
Aside from finding a new Dr., which I too agree is not an easy process, the whole meds thing takes due diligence. Especially for all the non-HIV meds. I go through this with my elderly Mom and always have to be on the ball to get the best prices because she doesn't take enough meds to get a Medicare Part D. When one of her Dr's prescribes any type of medication I tell them to prescribe the best generic that won't break the bank and then I shop pharmacies. She is currently on two high blood pressure medications that I get at a Rite-Aid pharmacy for $8.99 each for 30 day supply, and the pharmacy suggested we do the 90 day script to save $$ which is $15.99. Good luck on your quest for finding a new Dr. and look up ASO's (which helped me greatly when I moved to Phoenix) and get a case manager to help you! My case manager in Phoenix was paramount in helping me with ADAP and Dr recommendations, housing (though I didn't need it) and many other things. She was a great help and there should be some in Syracuse! Keep us posted on the move and new Dr. Best of luck to you, Nena
