At least 3 dead in Kansas City mall shooting

Two others wounded at one of city's busiest shopping centers

Updated: 14 minutes ago

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A shooting at a Kansas City shopping center has

left at least three dead, including the gunman, police said.

Two of the victims were shot about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of

the Ward Parkway Center in south Kansas City. The gunman went inside

the mall and is believed to have fired more shots, wounding at least

two people, police spokesman Tony said.

The man was shot to death inside the mall, but police were still

trying to determine exactly who shot him, said. His body

remained inside the mall early Sunday evening.

said the entire incident began about 2 p.m. at another

location, when police went to a home to investigate a report of a

person who had not been seen by relatives for days. The person was

found dead and his car was missing, said.

Around 3:15 p.m., an officer was shot in the arm after pulling over

a man who was driving the victim's car. The officer, whose wound was

not life-threatening, returned fire. The car took off and was later

seen at the mall.

Police received several calls from people who saw a man with a " long

gun " at the mall, said. The gunman shot two people in the

parking lot, killing them, then went inside the mall and fired more

shots, said.

The mall, one of the city's busiest shopping centers, was shut down

and officers were going through each store, said.

Preliminary witness accounts gave conflicting accounts of exactly

where the shootings occurred. Television video showed a window shot

out at a Starbucks coffee shot but some witnesses said the shooting

occurred around a Target store.

Washington, 34, a worker at Target, said the shooting appeared

to happen near store's entrance into the into mall.

He said he was coming back from lunch when he heard gunshots.

" The only person we saw was a black gentleman holding his eye. The

man had apparently been shot, " Washington said.

Caffie Bradshaw, 19, of Kansas City, was at her first day of work at

the Target. She said she was in a break room with two other people

when they heard shots. She said co-workers saw a white man with a

rifle who was " spraying bullets. "
