Guest guest
I'd second the possible texture issue - the food you mentioned all starts hard then gets mushy. My son went through something like that at about the same age - he was a fantastic eater and then one day around 18 months that all stopped. He eats better now, but it has to be *his* choice. Texture is hard to predict unless you are a texture-sensitive person yourself. My hubby is almost 40 and still has a hard time with food textures (hubby is soooo picky), but he's better able to predict what Bobby will eat, whereas I eat anything that is not nailed down... Other things to consider: - Does he have a sore throat, tummy upset or an allergies flare-up? When my son starts a cold, ear infection or sinus back-up, he stops eating but never exhibits any pain. Then a few days later, the nose gets yucky. - Pure toddler control issues - he can push your buttons by not eating. My boy did that too, and I've heard other moms say the same thing. I just stay calm and wait it out. If I try to make him eat, he totally stops.- End of a growth spurt - He was eating, but now his body doesn't need it. We've had that happen here, too. Every spring he really slows his eating down for a couple of weeks. Then, it builds back to normal. Again, I have to stay calm and wait it out... Good luck - mom to Bobby, age 3.5, dx "mild" autism, seriously sensory-seeking, starting to talk, and knows his numbers 1-30 and all the ABCs! Need a vacation? Guest guest
I dont know it seems sensory but yet he would eat a sucker, not eat it but suck on it, and eat cookies. i havent really tried to give him anything too hard because he didnt have enough teeth until just now. He didnt cut his first tooth until a year old, order of arrivial: upper front, bottom front, 2 mths later 2nd upper front, bottom front, and then recently four molars. he should more teeth by now shouldnt he? he was late with everything he did even walking which didnt happen until 16 - 17- mths.Marilyn Pyles <hillbillyhelper2@...> wrote: Is it related to texture? Guest guest
My son has always had difficulty with eating, starting at infancy. He has reflux and tricky bowels (either too soft or too hard). At 6, he is on Zantac just to keep food in his belly (spontaneous retching and vomitting after any fatty or spicy food). He's never been diagnosed with herschsprung's though i've suspected it recently. Anyway, he is very vocal about " slimy " or " yucky " or " sticky " or " mushy " foods. It simply won't go into his mouth. period. I fret about his nutrition so I give him a daily vitamin. A very recent Solution for us: Recently I stumbled upon his love of dehydrated fruits. He scarfs them up. Gerber has a toddler line of foods that include dehydrated fruits and vegetables. If he eats it, I'm going to add it to his diet. Our local grocery store also has a large variety of dehydrated foods by the lb. Eureka! I am delighted that he'll eat good food finally! Guest guest
Do you do the GFCF diet? My daughter had many similar problems and the GFCF diet has helped her tremendously. She also had many behavior issues that have diminished with the GFCF diet. I think she was in pain.

Guest guest
Jennie, My son loves the dehydrated fruits so much that I buy them in bulk from a survival gear company called Emergency Essentials. it's pricey for the one big shipment, but cheaper over a year than buying Gerbers or Walmart's brand all the time. He eats some of the dried veggies, but not consistently, so I just grind up the veggies in a coffee grinder and hide the "veggie dust" in his peanut butter Sneaky mommy! Guest guest
You know, I thought about buying that stuff but wasnt sure if he would eat it or not. When I go to the baby section of the store, i think, ok what will he eat. I found that he like the Gerber banana cookies.....for awhile. And the little cereal bar things but he loses interest so fast he wont eat them again. Im going to try the dehydrated stuff now that he has more teeth. Before i was afraid he might chole because he didnt have many teeth. For a change he ate pretty well for me today, he had a few waffles...meaning pieces not a few waffles in itself, went to subway but all he wanted was chips, scrambled sggs, co co puffs. he si a weird eater, i trry to trick him by mixing stuff in his milk but it doesnt work except for the first time usually. He doesnt eat PB. Its like playing Jeopardy trying to figure out what he WILL eat.
